Caring for indoor flowers in winter

With the arrival of cold weather and the beginning of the heating season, it becomes warm in the apartments, but the flip side of the coin is the increased dryness of the air, from which both people and plants suffer. And if a person can take care of himself in order to comfortably survive this period, then indoor flowers need to be helped. What can we do to ensure that plants do not suffer from a lack of moisture?

Water treatments for green pets

The simplest first aid that can be given to plants during this period is to spray with water. However, you need to understand that not all water is suitable for this. First of all, don't take water directly from the tap. The water should be:

• firstly, defended;

• secondly - warm.

At the same time, spraying is a double-edged sword. After several such procedures, limescale will begin to appear on the leaves sooner or later. It is advisable to get rid of it. This can be done under a warm shower. Better yet, treat the leaves with a cotton swab dipped in a solution of special green soap. It not only cleans the surface of the leaf plate, but also heals plants, acts as a prophylactic agent against diseases and pests.

Other ways to increase air humidity

The most effective way is to use an electric humidifier. But if such expenses are not yet foreseen in your budget, you can use other options.

Many growers keep their flower pots on the windowsills, right above the radiators. And this is largely justified, because in winter the plants do not have enough light. And therefore it is good to keep them near the windows.

But, of course, during the heating season, the heat from the battery acts directly on the flower. This negative effect can be reduced by placing a damp towel over the battery. Or put trays of wet towels on the batteries.

If the house has wide basins or large bowls, then there is another way out. At the bottom of the basin, you need to pour a layer of expanded clay. And put pots of flowers on top of it. Pour water into the bottom of the basin. Then the expanded clay will be moistened and will begin to evaporate the moisture needed by the flowers. So they will find themselves in a kind of oasis in the middle of a dry room. But watch the water level so that it does not rise too high and does not touch the bottom of the pots. Otherwise, water will enter the kidney through the drainage holes. And from constant humidity inside the pot, the roots can begin to rot. In addition, soil mosquitoes can grow in moist soil. Remember, moisture on the outside is good, but inside is bad.

When uninvited guests appear on the plants

If, despite all the measures taken, the leaves continue to dry, and the plant withers, perhaps the point is not the dry air, but the disease and the presence of pests. It would be a mistake to feed the plant in this state. Instead of feeding, treatment is required here.

However, not all parasites will so easily agree to leave their habitable flowers. For example, the scale insect is not afraid of any spraying. A tick is able to migrate around the room from one plant to another. Therefore, it is always wiser to take measures to prevent pest attacks. This will help special preparations in tablets and sticks, which are simply buried in the soil of the pot. They gradually dissolve, providing protection within 1, 5-2 months.

In addition to the fact that the parasites suck the juices from the plant, they leave behind on the leaf plate waste products. This shiny sticky film is also recommended to be removed. This can be done with a solution of green soap, alcohol-containing liquids, or just vodka.
