Many indoor flowers in winter do not cause trouble, going for a dormant period. But such plants that do not shed their leaves in the cold season, such as palms, monstera, or even bloom, like some representatives of stem succulents - Decembrist, Kalanchoe, poinsettia - need special attention. What needs to be done to provide favorable conditions for flowers during this period?
Air humidification
In winter, in our apartments, indoor flowers are primarily threatened not so much by the cold as by the increased dryness of the air, but somewhere in the heat, because of the heating radiators working at full capacity. Once in such conditions, the leaves on the flowers dry up, fall off, and even watering does not save them, especially since at this time of the year their volumes and frequency are reduced.
The problem can be solved very simply - with an ordinary air humidifier. Miniature decorative fountains installed side by side also cope with this function. To save electricity, you can also hang wet towels on the batteries. By the way, such procedures are useful not only for flowers, but also for the owners of the apartment.
To create a halo of moist air, wet expanded clay is laid out next to the pots. Moistened expanded clay gravel can be spread directly into the pallet. But then a kind of airbag should be built between the bottom of the pot and the pan so that when the material is moistened, water does not penetrate into the soil through the drainage holes. To do this, a saucer of a smaller diameter or any other suitable material at hand is placed under the flowerpot.
Spraying plants
Green leaves will benefit from spraying from a spray bottle. Moreover, this should be done with water, which is slightly higher than the air temperature in the room - about + 40 ° C.
This procedure is very effective, but has its drawbacks when using tap water for this. After it, plaque may appear on the leaves. And you should get rid of it, because it not only spoils the decorative appearance of the plant, but also interferes with the natural metabolic processes of the plant.
Therefore, from time to time you need to plan in your schedule to clean the leaves from plaque. To do this, use a sponge soaked in water or a soft cloth, cosmetic cotton pads. When using reusable material, it is advisable not to treat different plants with the same without first disinfecting.
Feeding blooming pets
Individual specimens that form and dissolve buds in winter also need to be fertilized into the soil. For example, these include different types of milkweed. There is one important rule to remember. For the development of greenery, flowers need nitrogen fertilization. When the flowering period comes, the plants require more phosphorus and potassium.
Dry fertilizers must be dissolved in water. Do not water the flowers with this solution right away. It takes at least several hours for the elements to dissolve well and the fertilizer is infused. It is better to make such a nutritious cocktail the day before applying to the soil.
It is necessary to irrigate the soil with fertilizer carefully, without spilling the composition. It is best to have a small watering can for this. You need to fertilize flowers no more than 1 time in 2 weeks. In addition, it is not recommended to feed your pets when the potting medium is dry. Before that, the flowers must be watered.
"Pills" for flowers
In winter, plants become more vulnerable to diseases and pests. Weakened flowers can be attacked by spider mites, mealybugs, and fungal diseases. Therefore, it is useful, along with dressing, to treat flowers with insecticides and fungicides. Often, manufacturers offer products that combine the functions of fertilizers and medicines in the form of capsules, tablets, sticks. Therefore, you need to carefully read the contents of the drug on the package, so as not to overdo it with nutrients.
