Aloe is one of the most famous and unpretentious perennial indoor plants, which is prized for its medicinal qualities. Aloe has been known for more than three thousand years, it has always been taken as a miraculous remedy for many ailments

The history of the appearance of aloe in Russia

This wonderful plant came to us from the tropics. While traveling on a ship in the 18th century, a Russian sailor fell ill with a fever, so he was landed on the island of South Africa. A month later, the ship sailed past this island again. There was no limit to the amazement of the sailors, instead of the exhausted "Robinson", they saw a healthy and strong man. He shared a story that during his illness he ate the fleshy leaves of an unusual tree. In the local dialect it was called "aloe", which in Russian means "health".

This plant lives well at home, without requiring special conditions. Having such a shrub on the windowsill, you can always provide first aid to household members without using a first aid kit.

The beneficial properties of aloe

Among the 500 species of evergreen aloe or agave (as it is called in everyday life), aloe vera is considered the most useful. From this most valuable succulent, two products are obtained that are used in medicine - juice and gel.

The main distinguishing features of the flower are the thick stem and leaves, which have pointed ends and small thorns along the edges of the xiphoid leaves. At the place of the leaf cut, a lot of yellow-green juice immediately appears, which has a specific bitter taste.

Aloe juice is rich in mineral salts, carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins C, B, E, A, tannins, catechins, carotenoids, flavonoids, enzymes. Due to such a rich chemical composition, agave juice has become widely used in home medicine. Aloe leaves are an unrivaled source of fiber, resins and glycosides.

Aloe against cough

Freshly obtained aloe vera juice takes pride of place in traditional medicine. Possessing anti-inflammatory, bactericidal effect on a number of microbes, it is often used for tonsillitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis. However, if the external use of the juice has no contraindications, then for oral administration it is advisable to consult with your doctor. Large doses of aloe cause contraction of the uterus and can provoke a miscarriage, so the use of such juice during pregnancy is contraindicated!

With prolonged cough, pneumonia, tuberculosis, you can prepare the following infusion: 1 kg of linden honey, 200 g of finely chopped aloe leaves, 200 g of olive oil, 150 g of birch buds and 50 g of lime blossom. In a separate container, brew the kidneys and linden, pouring 500 ml of water, boil for 1 - 2 minutes, be sure to strain. Pour the resulting broth into the mixture of aloe, honey, add oil. Take the solution one tablespoon 3 times a day, shaking well before use. As a result, the immune system is strengthened, the blood is purified, and the body is biostimulated.

The valuable properties of the juice of this plant have an effect on the urinary tract and kidneys. Aloe juice has a laxative and diuretic effect, therefore it is indicated for people with low acidity, chronic constipation.

Peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer are treated with a mixture of crushed aloe leaves and a glass of sugar. To do this, finely chop the leaves of the plant, mix with granulated sugar, let it brew in an unlit place for three days. Then add a glass of natural red wine and leave for another day. Consume a tablespoon 2 to 3 times daily before meals.
