There are many recipes for making greenhouse land. The most versatile composition for growing various seedlings, and then cultivating vegetables on this substrate, is a mixture of sod land, peat and coarse river sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1.

Sod land for the preparation of a greenhouse substrate is obtained from sod, which is collected in floodplain meadows, and also harvested in old pastures. To do this, you will need a sharp shovel, four pegs and a rope to mark the site. To collect the sod canvas, it is advisable to take a partner with you.

In the meadow, the pegs are driven into the ground so that the rope put on them forms a rectangle approximately 1x2 m in size. The resulting figure is cut out along the perimeter with a sharp shovel, and then the sod layer is completely cut off together with the grass, intertwined in the ground by plant roots. As the sod is cut, the sod is rolled into a roll. The most convenient way to transport the turf is with a wheelbarrow.

Components for a substrate with humus soil

Another nutrient composition for greenhouses is obtained from compost and humus soil, peat and sand in a ratio of 3: 2: 1: 1. To obtain humus soil, you can use the manure that has already been used for the benefit of the greenhouse - as biofuel.

The land for such composting must be cultivated. You can disinfect the soil by warming up. If the mass is small, you can ignite the earth in a stove, oven, or a spacious boiler. Heating is performed at approximately 90-100 ° C.

When the volume of raw materials is impressive, disinfection can be performed with an aqueous solution of formalin. The area treated with this composition is covered for several days with a film under the press. And then let the ground air before starting to work with it.

What else do you need for a greenhouse?

With the beginning of leaf fall, fallen leaves are collected in October - this is an excellent raw material that is added to manure to heat the greenhouse. Also, the leaves are useful as a spacer between the manure and the ground. But not every tree is suitable for collecting foliage under it. So, the leaf mass of oak, willow, alder will not work. But maple, hazel, linden will be an excellent material for a greenhouse.

The foliage is harvested in dry weather. If it gets wet in the rain, you will have to dry it, and only after that you can move the foliage to a common pile for storage. To protect the raw materials from precipitation and gusts of wind, the leaves are covered with foil and pressed with boards or stones.

For heating the greenhouses, horse, sheep, goat, cow, rabbit manure is harvested. Horse manure is the best material for a greenhouse. It is necessary to use cows in a mixture with horse in a ratio of 1: 1, since it heats up on its own very badly. And sheep should be moistened with water before use, because it is very dry.

You need to get the old soil out of the greenhouse and let it lie down. It will take a couple of years to get back into operation. This land must be disinfected, because infected seeds could leave pathogens here. And after that, fill it well with organic matter and mineral fertilizers. During this "holiday period" the old greenhouse soil is shoveled several times a year.
