Pond in the country

A pond is capable of magically transforming a summer cottage. A beautiful pond surrounded by flowers and decorated with a bridge or a sculpture will become a favorite place for households and close friends, where you can enjoy the sounds of bubbling water, the scent of flowers and the sun's rays

A pond in the country is a great opportunity to diversify and add zest to the landscape design of the garden, as well as give it a more harmonious look. Creating a pond is not an easy task, but it is feasible for every owner of a summer cottage or garden plot. You just need to familiarize yourself with the principles and basic manufacturing requirements.

Seat selection

It is necessary to start creating an artificial reservoir by choosing a place. The pond should be in a well-lit area, protected from cold winds by a fence or house wall, and away from deciduous trees. Do not place the pond in areas that are too shaded, this will negatively affect the quality of the water in it and the plants surrounding it. It is desirable that the reservoir is visible from all sides.

Material

Before you start digging a pit, you need to decide on the material that will serve as the basis for the pond. The modern market offers customers several solutions:

* ready-made form made of polyvinyl chloride or durable plastic;

* butyl rubber;

*reinforced concrete;

* polyvinyl chloride film;

determination of sizes and shapes

The size of the pond depends only on the area of the summer cottage, and the shape depends on the style of landscape design in which the garden is made. For example, on a plot in a classic style, a reservoir of the correct shape will look most harmonious, soft curvilinear proportions will perfectly fit into gardens in a landscape style or fusion.

Stages of creation

The most important step in creating a pond is digging a pit. This work can be carried out independently or with the help of an excavator if it is planned to manufacture a large reservoir. The contours of the future pond are preliminarily outlined, then the sod is removed and only after that the main bowl is dug out. It is worth remembering that the level of inclination of the edges should be 45 degrees, and the depth should be 40 cm more than the finished form. It is desirable that the depth of the form is at least 60-80 cm, otherwise the pond will freeze slightly in winter and overheat in summer. A ditch is dug along the perimeter of the pit to fix the form or film cover.

After the pit is ready, the bottom of the future pond is leveled, stones and plant roots are removed, they can damage the coating. Its surface is covered with clean sifted sand in a layer of 5 cm and covered with a special geotextile cloth if a polyvinyl chloride film is used. Fulfillment of all these conditions will protect the coating from damage and significantly extend its service life.

The next step is to lay the mold, film or butyl rubber. In the last two cases, the size of the canvas is calculated based on the doubled depth of the pit and the total length, and the margin of the canvas along the edge (at least half a meter) is also taken into account. Having inserted a mold into the pit, its edges and the nearby surface are poured with a cement-sand mixture. With film and rubber, everything is much simpler, the materials are laid, and the edges are fixed with decorative stones. Although in this case, filling with cement will be beneficial. After the cement mixture has completely solidified, decorative elements are laid on the blind area: stones, tiles or gravel, water is poured, and shrubs and flowers are planted around the pond. You can additionally equip the reservoir with various systems: underwater lighting, flood lighting and fountains.

Pond care

In order for the reservoir to serve its owner as long as possible, it requires certain care. In summer, it is necessary to regularly remove filamentous algae from the water, and remove weeds from the soil around the pond. To clean the pond, you can use special chemicals that saturate the water with oxygen without harming the inhabitants of the pond, if any.

In the fall, you need to remove leaves and other debris from the surface of the water, cover the pond with a special protective film or net, and also cut off dried stems and peduncles. In the spring, the bottom and walls of the reservoir are cleaned of silt, and water is added. All these activities do not require much time and effort, since the care is done gradually.
