Planting garlic bulbs

Before proceeding with the topic of planting garlic with bulbs, you need to remember that there are different forms of garlic: arrow and non-arrow. The latter are more suitable for spring plantings. But shooters are considered more productive. They give a large onion, and you can plant them before winter. And what is most interesting, if you do not break out the arrow, then you can collect an excellent harvest of air bulbs from them - the so-called bulbs. Let's take a closer look at the capabilities and potential of these babies

Features of Arrowhead Garlic Varieties

Shooting garlic varieties are very noticeable plants in the garden. When the gardener plans to reproduce this form with air bulbs, then the peduncle that appears on the plant is not removed. And its height can reach the height of a person. On average, the arrow is 1-1, 2 m long.

Shooting varieties are Polet, Yubileiny, Gribovsky, Bogatyr, Otradnensky. Well, if you get a head of an unknown name, you can recognize the shooting variety by the inner rod and large teeth.

At the top of the peduncle of such plants, a very picturesque inflorescence is formed. It is enclosed in a tight cover and topped with a refined curved nose. Seeds in inflorescences do not ripen. But instead of them, air bulbs develop. Inflorescences can be multi-flowered and few-flowered. And depending on the variety, from 50 to 300 bulbs can be hidden in one cover. Their size also varies - from a bulb the size of an oatmeal to larger specimens approximately the size of a marigold.

Despite its modest size, it is a valuable planting material. If you plant the bulbs in the fall, at the end of September - early October, or in early spring, by the middle of summer you can harvest large one-toothed. Those, in turn, are planted again before winter, and next year it will be possible to collect full-fledged heads of garlic with beautiful large teeth.

The subtleties of winter garlic plantings

The question may arise, why waste a year and engage in the propagation of garlic with air bulbs, if you can divide the head into cloves and get a harvest after six months? The fact is that this method helps to heal your garlic. Together with sick teeth, which have accumulated infection for years, pathogens penetrate into the soil. And this process circulates from year to year. But you can cope with this problem with the topics of the very bulbs, which do not carry disease-causing principles.

Another feature of the shooting varieties is that they have high winter hardiness, but they are stored worse than spring varieties. Therefore, it is advisable to use part of the harvested crop for sub-winter plantings so that the product does not deteriorate until spring.

To collect the bulbs from the garlic, the inflorescence is cut from the plant after the cap cracks and flowering along with the peduncle. The stem should remain about 30 cm. This "bouquet" is placed in a gauze bag and left in a warm, semi-shady place to dry. When it's time to dig the garlic, and the inflorescence is not yet ready, you can select the crop from the ground along with the head and hang it with an arrow down.

It is recommended to plant the bulbs on the sunny side of the garden. Unlike the technology of planting cloves, air bulbs are not immersed so deeply in the ground - about 2 cm. However, it is worth making an allowance for the texture of the soil. If this is a light sandy soil, then you can drown the bulb deeper, and on clay soil it should be placed closer to the soil surface.

The holes are made more often than for the cloves, but not too close so that the one-teeth are large enough. If the autumn turned out to be dry, then after planting, the garden bed needs to be watered. And when the soil is wet, you can do without it. In case of late planting, it is recommended to mulch the garden bed.
