Low-growing roses do not have to be planted in flower beds. You can find another, mobile application for them. An open veranda, a gazebo, paths, resting places, a space near benches, a pond, at the central entrance to the house are decorated with flowers in hanging baskets or containers. If you want to rearrange the structure, it will not be difficult. During a festive outdoor feast, they can be placed in the guest area, beautifully decorating the celebration. What features should be taken into account in this case?
Variety selection
Dwarf floribunda varieties (patio roses) or miniature varieties are suitable for growing in pots. The root system of tall specimens in a confined space feels oppressed. There is a lot of windage of such compositions. In strong winds, the pot will tip over, breaking the integrity of the coma.
Climbing, ground cover specimens look great in hanging planters. Stems grow slowly, hanging effectively outside the pot.
In large volumes, they create an original composition of different varieties. An erect plant with a height of 30-40 cm is placed in the center, around it are lower roses. Alternatively, they are planted around the edge with small-bulbous flowers or ampelous plants of other species.
Beautiful flowerpots are not used for climbing forms, so as not to lose the decorativeness of the vessel's design.
Capacity requirements
In order for plants to thrive in a confined space, certain conditions must be met:
1. The depth of the pot corresponds to the size of the bushes: medium-sized floribundas - at least 40cm, patios - 30cm, miniature - 25cm.
2. The bottom is equipped with several drainage holes.
3. At the bottom there is a layer of expanded clay, pebbles or clay shards to avoid siltation of technical drains.
4. The base is flat and even.
5. The volume of soil is not less than 6-10 liters, depending on the size of the "new settler".
Any form, material of decorative pots: plastic, clay, concrete, stone, fiberglass, wood.
Glazed ceramic vessels are removed indoors for the winter. Plastic - tested annually for strength. They tend to deteriorate in direct sunlight and become fragile.
The outside of the tree is covered with a protective layer of linseed oil, varnish or paint, and a protective material is laid inside: roofing material, roofing felt, polyethylene. Leaving room for excess water to drain.
Unexpected blanks can be used as a vessel:
• rotten logs, stumps;
• aquariums;
• overall sinks;
• wooden wheelbarrows;
• old buckets;
• any items are hollow inside, of a suitable size and texture.
Care
Potted roses in the country require a different care technology. The mistake is made by gardeners who care for plants like pets.
Under the scorching rays of the sun, the earth in the containers dries up quickly. Bushes not watered for 2-3 days die. Therefore, the soil should be moistened 1-2 times a day. In the heat, the vessels are wrapped with wet burlap. Abundant torrential rains are dangerous for "new settlers". Before the onset of precipitation, the pots are removed under the canopy. Above large containers, a cover is created from a film stretched over a frame.
Top dressing 2 times per season at the beginning of the growing season, during the budding period, with a complex fertilizer for street roses. Before this, it is necessary to moisten the soil with water.
Wintering
Before the onset of persistent cold weather, dig a hole to fit the size of the container. Install containers. Buried with soil. A small mound is erected on top. Warm with spruce branches, leaf litter. Install a wooden box. Non-woven fabric is laid in 2 layers.
If possible, store the pots in a cool room with a temperature of 1-2 degrees without heating.
The above technique will help to avoid mistakes when growing roses in containers in the country. All summer they will delight you with their flowering, pleasant aroma, bright colors.
