Summer residents are very worried about their landings, when they are at the dacha only on weekends, and the heat is on the street all the working week, and not a drop of life-giving moisture will fall on the hot city asphalt. And the soul of the summer resident hurts, how his plants resist such weather there. By planting ornamental grasses on the site, preferring dry areas for their place of residence, a person relieves himself of unnecessary worries
Elimus (Volosnec) sandy
A very unpredictable plant that can suddenly appear anywhere in your summer cottage space. It is an extremely unpretentious plant that grows on very poor dry sandy soils. Elimus is rapidly forming amazingly beautiful clumps of meter-long bluish-gray leaves.
Feather grass
Gone are the days in which the Russian steppes were covered with silky feather grass carpets, remaining only in folk epics, poems and songs, and in nature reserves and on the rare slopes of ravines and ravines. Many of them were included in the list of endangered plants included in the Red Book.
Growing feather grass is not difficult at all. They like the soil slightly alkaline, well-drained, not tolerating stagnant water. Choose a warm and sunny place of residence for them.
Feather grass propagates by seeds that have elongated fluffy parts, with the help of which they fly over long distances and which create a soft silky appearance of the plant. But they do not like to transplant feather grass to a new place, so the easiest way is to purchase young plants specially grown for sale in the nursery in order to decorate your steppe dacha corner or alpine hill with them.
Feather grass is used in folk medicine to treat rheumatism, paralysis and thyroid diseases, harvesting the ground part of the plant in May-June.
Coleria gray
A medium-sized plant (height up to 40 cm) with strong thin bluish foliage and creamy fluffy panicles also came to our gardens from the steppe expanses. Gray coleria imposes requirements on cultivation similar to feather grass.
Reed spine-flowered
An extremely unpretentious plant that does not need special care. In the spring, immediately after the disappearance of the snow, vertically growing young leaves appear, making up an excellent company for small-bulbous flowers.
But its main beauty is its large lush panicles, which the reed plant gives to summer residents in July. In November, autumn frosts decorate the plant with thin silver needles.
Fescue
These undersized "hedgehogs" (height up to 15 cm) can be painted in steel-bluish, golden, green colors. They retain their narrow leaves all year round without requiring any maintenance. Lovers of sunny places, they will be happy to decorate an alpine slide in which rainwater does not stagnate.
Evergreen sheep
Quite a tall plant up to 80 centimeters high. Its pale yellow spikelets droop after gray leaves growing into a powerful compact bush. The plant does not tolerate transplants, so you must immediately choose a suitable place for it, which can be either open to sunlight or half-shaded.
Sesleria blue
In sunny areas, it forms a bright green hummock, which is decorated with purple spikelets in spring. Three or five such bumps, located nearby, will create a steppe corner on your site, touching the soul with nostalgia for the departed, living in our genes.
Pennisetum
A very attractive decorative plant. Bright and fluffy spikelets similar to the tails of exotic animals are amusingly waving from side to side under a light breeze. They come from the subtropics, and therefore our winter is not a joy for them, and they are grown more often as annuals.
Bison or mesquite herb
In its homeland, on the prairies of North America, it covers vast areas. We have it so far taken root in the gardens of exotic lovers. It attracts attention with thin delicate leaves and dark-brown spikelets, located parallel to the surface of the earth.
