Hoya is fleshy, she is hoya carnosa - another unpretentious houseplant that will forgive you for both the lack of light and the lack of watering. But he will generously endow you with lianas richly strewn with wax leaves and umbrellas of fragrant flowers, also as if covered with wax. If you have met such a beauty, and passionately wanted to multiply such a woman in yourself, this does not present any particular difficulties. To do this, you just need to cut the vine and cut it into cuttings. Hoya takes root easily, but you should know some of the features of this process

Reproduction of hoya carnose by cuttings

Hoya belongs to succulent plants. And this means that before proceeding with planting cuttings for rooting, they need to be allowed to dry out a little and wither. Before you start dividing the vine into cuttings, you can let the twig lie down for a day or two in order to activate the processes in it that will contribute to the early rooting.

How to divide a vine into cuttings? It is necessary to cut it so that at least one internode with a leaf remains on each cutting. The stalk should be cut in such a way that there is an internode with a leaf on top, and a longer stem of a vine below, which will sink completely into the substrate for rooting.

Hoya propagation with fleshy leaves

If there are leaves after trimming, it can be a pity to throw them away. And I would also like to use it for reproduction. But there is such a nuance here. At least a small heel from the stem and internode should remain on the leaf petiole. If there is none, then the petiole must be removed completely. Because such a leaf is able to stand in the ground for a long time - and everything is ineffectual, you will not see the roots. And if you remove the petiole and put a “naked” leaf on rooting, it will certainly release the roots, although not as actively as cuttings with stems do.

What to root fleshy hoya

Any poor soil can be used for rooting. For example, a universal peat-based soil mixture. It will not be superfluous to add perlite to it for better air exchange and moisture retention.

Another good way is to take clean, wet perlite. The cuttings will then be in an ideal moist environment without recharge and will develop a good strong root system. But it would be a mistake to root the hoya immediately in the nutrient soil for succulents. In such a land, it is necessary to transplant already rooted cuttings.

In what container should hoya be rooted? You could immediately take small pots for this 6-8 cm in diameter. But it is still better to take transparent containers. Because through them you can control how much the root system has grown and whether it is time to transplant hoya.

Plastic cups are ideal for rooting containers. Bottles can also be cut. Make sure to make holes in the bottom for water drainage. The height of the cups should be such that the handle can be completely immersed in it, and the tip touches the bottom of the cup. So that you can pour so much soil or perlite so that it covers the cutting to the level of the internode.

If you use perlite, then the perlite cups should be immediately filled with this natural material. And then put it in a bowl of water for a few minutes so that the perlite is saturated with moisture. And then immerse the cuttings in them.

After that, you need to put the cuttings in the greenhouse. It can be a transparent container with a lid. It is also good to use zip bags. But the most ordinary bags will do, which must be tightly tied with an elastic band on top. And put the greenhouse in a bright and warm enough place. For example, the ideal place for this is in the kitchen on the refrigerator. Warm air collects there, while there will be light from the lamp.

Cuttings root at different rates. But the first results can be seen already after three weeks. The best and faster than others are the rooting of those cuttings that were taken from the top of the vine.
