Modern design aims to get closer to nature, landscaping is a popular trend. This trend is especially appreciated by the townspeople, but not everyone has time to grow indoor flowers. There is a rational way - these are lawns, living walls and floor rugs made of moss
Greening of living space
In home gardening, designers offer interesting options for decorating not only living space with plants, but also walls and roofs. Today it is not uncommon for tables with growing grass, window sills, lawns, floors with vegetation. These innovations make the interior sophisticatedly unusual, healthy and are the highlight of the design.
Wall panels made from living plants are especially popular. New-fashioned vertical gardening saves space, effectively enlivens the room. Allows you to get away from traditional pots and pots, free up the window sill, increase the flow of daylight, and improve the microclimate.
Living bath mat
Recently, designers have invented the technique of growing vegetation in the bathroom. This masterpiece is called "living carpet". It is known that the bathroom is devoid of sunlight, has high humidity, most of the time is immersed in complete darkness. Surprisingly, some species of flora like such conditions and are ideal for development.
Features of a live rug
Moss is an amazing plant that forms a continuous cover, undemanding to nutrition, and can do without soil. Summer residents are familiar with moss, which spreads in shady and humid places. It is considered a weed that covers decorative stones, paths, foundations, garden sculptures, and is fought against. At home, on the contrary, they try to create optimal conditions for growth.
For the base of the rug, a moisture-resistant frame made of plastazol is needed - a dense plastic, in the form of structural cells. The material is resistant to weight loads, provides flexibility, and moisture resistance. It does not contain harmful substances and is considered ideal for living plants. No soil or substrate mixtures are needed to plant moss.
Benefits of a moss rug
Putting a living rug on the floor near the shower or bath, you have the opportunity to touch nature, stand barefoot and have fun. Having such a miracle at home, you get a lot of positive moments:
1.filling the air with oxygen, favorable atmosphere;
2. decrease in moisture, as moss absorbs excess moisture;
3. Purifies the air, prevents the spread of mold;
4. has a bactericidal effect;
5. fluffy surface gives pleasant tactile emotions, increases vitality;
6. does not need care - only moisture is needed, which comes from the air and from wet feet;
7. Capable of blooming without sunlight.
Making a living moss carpet ourselves
Nowadays there are ready-made "living rugs" on sale, but the price is high and not available to everyone. The desire to bring creativity to the design of our home drives us, so with an effort you can make the landscaping of the apartment on your own.
The finished models contain three types of moss: globular, forest and oceanic. We will use our own version. Prepare live forest moss of fine structure, carefully clean from the ground. Leucobryum or Racomitrium work well for carpets. Bryophyte moss is not suitable.
You will need a blender. Put three handfuls of plants in a bowl, half a glass of bioyogurt or kefir, 2 tsp each. sugar and moisture retention gel. At a slow speed, it is completely crushed (3-5 minutes) until a smooth cocktail is made. If there is no stringiness and too thick dry mass, you can add water. There should be a creamy consistency.
The resulting substance is spread over the prepared porous plastic or rubber surface. For survival, you need to provide uniform weekly watering or cover with polyethylene. At the beginning of development, a thin green film is formed. Then the growth of moss pads will begin. All this will take a month and a half. If you get bald patches, you can plant them again using the gel.
For cultivation and care, no fertilizers, stimulants, chemicals are needed, only moisture and watering. The grown living rug is resistant to temperature extremes, does not need a haircut. If you have been away for a long time and the moss is dry, just water it and the plant will recover. Having such a decoration, it can be used not only in the bathroom, but anywhere. It will be a useful addition to the interior and unusual design.
