The fruits of this culture can be both round and oval or pear-shaped, and their average length is four to five centimeters. The tops of these attractive fruits are covered with rather tough green cups. Their skin is very smooth and thin, pale yellow or white, with a characteristic pinkish bloom. And the flesh contained inside the fruit is usually crispy, sweetish and loose. In addition, it boasts an enchanting rose scent (this is precisely the fact that the name of the culture is due to). Such an attractive scent of a pink apple is due to ethylene - this chemical compound is produced by trees in order to attract various fruit-eating animals (mostly elephants) and birds, which will subsequently spread it.
In the center of the fruit pulp there are cavities that hide from one to four brownish seeds 1 to 1.6 cm long. These seeds are not digested after entering the stomachs of birds or animals. Under favorable conditions, the rose apple will bear fruit throughout the year, while its peak fruiting will invariably fall on only three or four months.
Where grows
The homeland of the plant is East India and picturesque Malaysia. For a long time, it has been cultivated in Sri Lanka, as well as in Indochina and on a number of picturesque Pacific islands. In 1762, this culture also came to Jamaica, from where it gradually began to penetrate to Bermuda, the Bahamas, and also to the Antilles. The flat part of both Central and South America (in the direction from Southern Mexico to Peru) did not remain uncovered either. And in Australia and on the African continent (in the tropical zone), this plant is considered an agricultural crop.
Application
Most often, these cute fruits are eaten fresh, as they are very easily digestible, saturating the body with a huge amount of useful elements. At the same time, it is best to eat them directly with the peel, since the bulk of the vitamins is located in it. The rose apple also makes excellent fruit syrups, sauces and jams with jellies.
The abundance of moisture and delicate fiber makes the rose apple an excellent remedy for constipation, and it also perfectly helps to normalize the intestinal microflora. And the inhabitants of Malaysia and India are convinced that there is simply no better product to quench their thirst in the heat. And for this, just one fruit will be enough!
In addition, the pulp of the pink apple is endowed with powerful antiseptic properties, which allows it to quickly and ruthlessly deal with disease-causing fungi and bacteria. And from the leaves of this culture, juice is obtained, which is used as a lotion for the face - this tool helps to moisturize and nourish the skin, as well as smooth out wrinkles. The leaves have also found their application in cosmetology with perfumery, because valuable essential oil is extracted from them. And the bark, which is very rich in tannins, has been used for tanning leather since ancient times.
Contraindications
There are currently no contraindications to the use of a pink apple - it can be eaten without fear by people in any condition and of any age, including pregnant women and nursing mothers. True, during the first acquaintance with this exotic fruit, a certain amount of caution still does not hurt - for a start it will be quite enough to limit yourself to one single fruit.
