Goryanka also known under the name Epimedium. This plant belongs to a perennial plant, and the Horny Goat Weed is of particular value due to its very beautiful flowers of an original shape and decorative leaves.

Description of the mountain woman

Horny Goat Weed flowers reach about two and a half centimeters in diameter. In color, such flowers can be pink and white, red and yellow, lilac and orange, and even greenish. The flowering of the plant begins in the month of May and lasts for only three to four weeks. The height of the mountain goat can even reach fifty centimeters, and the leaves of this plant can be clothed in various forms. Horny Goat Weed forms rather dense bushes that are not capable of breaking up into separate parts either from wind or rain.

Description of the care and cultivation of the Horny Goat Weed

It should be noted that the Horny Goat Weed is not a very whimsical plant to care for. However, the Horny Goat Weed is best planted in a shady or at least somewhat dark place. For example, places under trees will be the best solution for growing mountain goat weed. As for the choice of soil, you will need a loose soil, which at the same time will be well-drained, as well as fertile, with an acidic or neutral reaction.

It is recommended to water the Horny Goat goat only on dry days, while it is impossible to allow even the slightest stagnation of moisture. Due to the excessive abundance of moisture, the plant may simply die. It is recommended to apply complex mineral fertilizers in the spring period, as well as at the beginning of summer and during the period of active growth of the Horny Goat Weed. Compost acts as an organic fertilizer: such fertilizer should be applied during planting or in the fall as mulch. In one place without a transplant, the plant can grow even for more than seven years, however, over time, the decorativeness of the plant decreases and in this case it is necessary to update the planting.

During the autumn period, the stems of the plant should not be cut: this helps the Horny Goat goat to better tolerate cold winter temperatures. It is noteworthy that the plant will need a fairly light shelter for the winter. For the winter, the Horny Goat Weed should be mulched with compost or shredded bark. It is also permissible and simple to cover the planting with fallen leaves. In the spring, the foliage that remains should be removed. This method will make the plant even more decorative, and also become a worthy obstacle to the occurrence of various diseases.

Reproduction of Horny Goat Weed

Reproduction of this plant occurs by means of freshly harvested seeds or by segments of rhizomes. Seeds should be sown before winter, while they must be separated from each other at a distance of thirty centimeters. It is noteworthy that the planting sites must be marked with a peg or in some other way: this is done for the reason that in the spring time the seedlings can get lost. When choosing this method of reproduction, the flowering of the Horny Goat Weed will begin in the third year of the plant's life.

As for reproduction by dividing the rhizomes, this procedure should be carried out in the autumn period, during plant transplantation. Each of the rhizome segments should have at least two healthy buds. The length of the rhizome segments should be about four centimeters, the plantings should be deepened into the pits to a depth of about five centimeters. After that, it is recommended to water the plantings, and for the winter plantings should be covered with dry foliage.

It should be noted that the plant is very resistant to various diseases, however, from time to time, the Horny Goat Weed may suffer from various rodents and slugs.
