How to properly store mulberries

Mulberry, well known to us as a mulberry, is a very useful berry and quite popular. She is able to normalize not only metabolism, but also heart rate, for which many appreciate her. Since mulberries bear fruit exclusively in summer, the question of its proper storage becomes quite reasonable. After all, you really want to pamper yourself with delicious berries in winter! Despite the fact that the mulberry is considered an easily damaged and perishable berry, it is still quite possible to preserve it

How to choose?

The first thing to do when choosing a mulberry is to carefully examine it. The berries should never be spoiled, and they should not show any visible damage. In addition, tails should remain on the mulberry, which is a confirmation that it has not overripe, has not deteriorated and fully retained its wonderful taste and valuable useful properties.

To the touch, all the berries should be soft enough, but at the same time very elastic, that is, if you press with your fingers, the berry should not be crushed.

In the event that mulberries are sold in jars or containers, do not hesitate to examine them for integrity. When buying a black mulberry, it is important to make sure that its sides do not turn out to be too pink - such berries may turn out to be very immature. And in a ripe white mulberry, the sides should not be greenish - ideally, they should be creamy or slightly pinkish.

When choosing a mulberry, it is important to pay attention to its ripeness. By the way, ripe berries have a pronounced laxative effect, and immature berries have a fixing effect. If you plan to purchase mulberries for long-term storage, it is still better to opt for almost ripe berries - they will not deteriorate much longer compared to their ripe companions.

How to store?

To preserve mulberries for several days, you can put them in the refrigerator (preferably in a special fruit compartment). Only berries sent for storage should not be crumpled or spoiled. Ideally, mulberries should be isolated from any other fruits and berries. Also, from time to time you need to look to see if the berries have begun to deteriorate - if spoiled fruits are found, they must be isolated from healthy ones as soon as possible.

As a rule, mulberries packed in polyethylene are stored in the refrigerator perfectly for three days.

Freeze mulberries

It is quite possible to freeze the mulberry. True, there is an opinion that its taste deteriorates slightly when frozen, but this does not happen in all cases. But its beneficial properties are always preserved when frozen!

Dry mulberry

Perhaps this is one of the most popular ways to store mulberries. Dried berries are stored for a very long time!

There are two main ways to dry mulberries. The first is to dry the berries for two weeks in direct sunlight. It is important to ensure that moisture does not get on the mulberry, therefore it is recommended to cover it with polyethylene or a sufficiently dense moisture-resistant material at night, or transfer it to well-ventilated dry rooms.

In the second method, the berries are dried in the sun for one to two days, and then dried in the oven (the temperature should not exceed thirty to forty degrees). Dried mulberries are usually stored in glass jars, sturdy containers or plastic bags - in this case, the berries retain both taste and useful properties.

Among other things, mulberries are used to make excellent jams, rich syrups and excellent preserves.
