The term garden renovation means not only replacing old trees and shrubs with new pets, but also correcting previous planting mistakes. Such seemingly difficult cases as a deep planting and an incorrectly chosen place for a tree are quite amenable to adjustment. The tree can be saved and it is expected that in the future it will give an excellent harvest of fruits
Apple tree transplant
Late September - early October is considered the best time to transplant a tree, when its current location was not the best choice. The pit for transplantation, as well as for planting, is prepared in two to three weeks so that the soil can settle and settle.
On the day the transplant is scheduled, the tree needs to be prepared for this stressful procedure. To do this, a circle with a radius of at least 1.2 m with a trunk in the center is preliminarily outlined around the apple tree. This will be a guideline in order to dig a groove about 30 cm deep. The soil inside the formed circle is watered abundantly with water, and then the top layer of the earth is carefully removed, gradually freeing the roots of the tree from its thickness. In the process of exposing the roots, the apple tree is periodically swayed slightly to determine the location of the root system holding it. Some of them will have to be separated along the outer border of the tunnel.
To move the tree to a new location, it is best to involve an assistant. An additional pair of hands will be very useful in order to bring two shovels (or another sturdy tool, for example, a crowbar) under the bare root system and in this position move the plant onto a stretcher. In this capacity, any suitable material of the appropriate size can serve: tarpaulin, burlap, old bedspread, plywood sheet, high-density film. Such a litter must have sufficient reliability to drag the dug out tree on it, and at the same time not only not tear, but also not wear out, protecting the preserved roots from injury from the ground and stones.
The tree is placed in a hole on the north side of the stake. The distance between them must be maintained approximately 3-5 cm. Care must be taken to deepen the tree correctly. In this case, the root collar should be at the level of the soil, possibly a little higher. It is also important to arrange the natural direction of growth for the roots during transplantation. Do not allow them to bend upwards or to form voids with air between them. When they are covered with earth, the apple tree is held by the trunk and slightly shaken so that the earth is evenly distributed. As the roots hide under the soil, it is lightly tamped. At the end of the transplant, the ground must be trampled, starting from the edges of the pit and moving towards the middle.
After transplanting, it is recommended to prune and water, and then mulch the soil. Do not forget that the tree needs to be tied up, because the soil will settle and the apple tree will need support.
How to fix landing errors
Sometimes such a radical measure as a transplant is not required, and in order for the tree to develop well, it is necessary to correct some minor flaws in the previous planting. In particular, they can be expressed in too deep or too shallow planting, with the expectation that the soil will settle over time.
A planting that is too shallow can easily be converted to a hillock by sprinkling fertile soil to the trunk. But with a recessed one - you have to tinker. To do this, you will need to build a kind of lever. Around the trunk, the tree will need to be dug and pour water under the tree. In addition, a lever is tied to the trunk, which is placed on a support dug in at a distance of about 2 m from the tree, 1-1.5 m high. The total length of the lever should be about 7 m. A load is attached to the free end, which will help to raise the tree by the desired height. After this procedure, the voids between the roots and under the tree are filled with earth.
