On the shores of swampy lakes and rivers, on peat-rich soils, a wonderful three-leaf watch is growing. You can meet this plant in Siberia, the Far East, as well as in a number of CIS countries. For the design of shallow water reservoirs, a wonderful perennial will be a truly great solution. And the origin of this water-coastal beauty is connected with a very touching legend about the sea queen and her little stepdaughter, whose tears became the reason for the appearance of an amazing flower
Getting to know the plant
The three-leaf watch represents the Shift family. She also has a number of other names: bean, fever, water shamrock and tripol. This plant is endowed with a loose, long and thick rhizome. The stems equipped with rosettes of leaves grow from the tops of the shoots; the number of stems growing from one apex can reach three to five. The petioles of the leaves are long and rather large, and on the flower stem reaching a length of 20 - 60 cm, the leaves are generally absent.
The flowers of the three-leafed watch gathering to the tops of the flower-bearing stalks are usually pale pink in color, and the fruits of this interesting plant look like spherical capsules filled with large seeds. Elliptical seeds are compressed on both sides. The three-leafed watch usually begins to bloom in May, and the fruits ripen closer to July-August.
There is a very touching legend about the origin of this wonderful plant. Once upon a time, a water queen named Volkhva ruled on the banks of the Great River. With this queen lived Vakhka - a girl-stepdaughter, whom her stepmother tried in every possible way to squeeze out of the light, but it didn't work out - the girl turned into a little mermaid. The little mermaid often ran away to chat with her friends - the good gnomes. But somehow the evil Magus noticed that the little mermaid often leaves the mermaid refuge, and decided to punish her, ordering her to remain forever in the underwater kingdom without the right to leave him even for a second. Shedding burning tears, the girl gradually began to turn into an amazing, but bitter plant: her legs turned into roots, her arms became leaves, and her head turned into a beautiful flower.
Application of the three-leaf watch
The three-leafed watch leaves are widely used in medicine. To do this, they are harvested in July-August, when the plant has faded, tearing off the leaves along with small areas of petioles. Dry the leaves in the shade. Their next harvesting can be carried out only after two to three years. In principle, the shelf life of dried leaves is just two years, so it is quite possible to stock up on them.
The three-leaf watch is a good way to stimulate appetite, increase the motility of the gastrointestinal tract and improve the secretion of gastric juice, which is extremely important for the digestion process. Also, this plant has an antipyretic effect, promotes early healing of wounds and is an excellent assistant in the fight against problem skin. In addition, there were no side effects from the treatment with this watery trefoil, nor any contraindications.
It is impossible not to mention that sometimes the leaves of the three-leaf watch are used even in the manufacture of beer - the taste of such a beer is especially velvety. The three-leafed watch is no less widely used for camouflage purposes, to hide various equipment on the water or to create a contrast with other plants growing on the coast or on the water.
How to grow
The three-leafed watch reproduces mainly vegetatively, but this is far from the only way: its reproduction can also occur through rhizomes and seeds.
To be able to control the growth of the plant, it is best to plant it in containers. And so that the water does not bloom, it is better to prefer containers with mesh or with holes on the bottoms. The containers are filled with soil, and greasy clay is spread on top with a layer of a couple of centimeters to avoid washing out the soil.
The three-leaf watch feels quite comfortable in partial shade or in well-lit places. And it can grow in any soil (both sandy and clayey are suitable), the main thing is that the soil is moist. From time to time, aquatic perennials are fed with complex fertilizers.
