Young linden trees grow quickly, saturating the surroundings with the aroma of flowers, attracting bees and delighting people. The densely leafy crown will give coolness, the bees will prepare fragrant linden honey from the nectar of the flowers, and fallen leaves will improve the fertility and physical properties of the soil, since they can quickly decompose

About fifty deciduous ornamental trees growing up to 25 meters in height represent the genus Tilia in nature.
Young trees flaunt a gray-brown smooth bark, which in old age begins to become covered with deep cracks, as the faces of people become covered with wrinkles over the years. Rounded-heart-shaped large leaves with a jagged edge of the petioles hold on to the branches, creating a real fabulous tent-crown of a spherical or pyramidal shape.
Small white or yellowish bisexual flowers form corymbose inflorescences. The Creator wrapped the inflorescence peduncle in a bract, as if giving the inflorescence a wing in case the flowers thought to fly up to heaven. But they have firmly settled on the branches and are not going to leave the Earth, filling the space around them with a fragrant aroma, endowing a person with delicate honey and their healing abilities.
Varieties
•
Linden cordate or cordifolia (Tilia cordata) - a lover of overgrowth has a spreading wide crown, shading her own children, and along the way, gives shade to a person. Its dark green ovoid-heart-shaped leaves are glossy on the upper side, and covered with brownish hairs on the lower side and have a lighter shade. Fragrant flowers bloom in July.
•
Large-leaved linden (Tilia platyphyllos) - heart-shaped large leaves on the underside are covered with whitish hairs located along the leaf veins. Fragrant flowers bloom in June-July.
•
European linden (Tilia x europaea) - this species was obtained by crossing the two previous species, cordifolia and large-leaved lindens. The result is a smooth underside of the sheet. Large leaves form a lush crown on a high tree trunk.
•
Felt or fluffy linden (Tilia tomentosa) - won the hearts of gardeners with its decorative look. Young linden shoots are covered with dense fluff. Do not lag behind the shoots and leaves. Bare on top, they adorned and protected the underside with felted pubescence. Flowers bloom in the second half of summer.
•
American linden (Tilia americana) - has very large decorative leaves.
Growing
A sunny or partial shade place is suitable for linden. It is grown in gardens and parks in single plantings, creating shady linden alleys, planted along city highways. Linden, a plant in the Northern Hemisphere, has adapted well to summer heat and winter frost.
Linden trees grow on various soils, giving preference to rich humus, fresh soils with an acidity of pH from 5, 5 to 7, 5. When planting in a permanent place, which is carried out in early spring or autumn, it is recommended to apply organic fertilizers to the soil. Young plants must be watered when planting.
Linden is pliable for pruning, but, as a rule, gardeners try to remove only dry and damaged shoots, since linden itself forms a beautiful and lush crown. If planting material is not needed, then, to give a neat look to the plant, the young growth is removed.
Delicate linden leaves, falling off in autumn, very quickly turn into fertilizer, improving soil fertility and its physical properties.
Reproduction
Seeds, falling into the soil, germinate in two years, giving new beauty to our world.
In culture, propagate by sowing seeds in March, planting in open ground after 3-4 years. Faster reproduction is carried out by cuttings, layering, shoots, rooted offspring.
Enemies
Although linden has a high protective potential against enemies, some pests still manage to ruin its life. Among them are insects such as scale insects, sawflies, lime mite.
Mushrooms cause trunk rot. Mistletoe likes to sit on linden branches.
