Yucca at home

A plant such as yucca is especially widespread in Central America, where it grows calmly and perfectly right in the open air. However, in a temperate climate, such a culture will not have enough warmth, due to which it is impossible to grow yucca in summer cottages and home gardens. However, it is still often found in home interior design. Taking care of this plant at home is actually not that difficult if you have knowledge of the habits and characteristics of yucca found in southern climates

In natural landscapes, yucca has an interesting appearance in the form of a large-sized shrub. It can be covered with leaves either completely or partially, but this does not lose its attractiveness. In the event that the foliage in the lower part of the crop falls off or dries up, the stem with the upper crown looks very much like a palm tree. This is understandable, because the stem of the plant has a structure similar to wood, and a bunch of yellow leaves adds elegance. The plant itself belongs to the Agave family. Yucca leaves have a dense texture and grow in different directions on the bush. They often have a slightly drooping appearance.

The leaves are lanceolate and have pointed edges. On the sides, the leaves contain long hair, which is very tough and durable. The length of these plant elements is also varied. In comfortable conditions in nature, they can reach one meter, but at home they behave more modestly - reaching a maximum of fifty centimeters. But there is another advantage here, because the color palette of yucca here is possible not only in greenish shades, but also to have yellowish, whitish or even multi-colored spots and stripes on the leaves.

On the one hand, it may seem that the external appearance of the yucca plant is rather severe and intimidating. But if you remember that nature created such crops in desert conditions, it becomes clear that there yucca adds a "zest" to the dry landscape. In addition, there it blooms in a vertical direction very beautifully, by throwing out numerous buds that look like bells. Yucca flowers can be decorated in white, pink or yellowish shades.

They buy yucca in stores for subsequent cultivation in the house, when the plant is still quite miniature in size. But after a certain period of time, the plant will take the form of a large bush or a small tree. Of course, such a plant needs special care and attitude.

How to care for a yucca?

Yucca has a lot of varieties, but only some plant varieties that can tolerate temperate climates and temperature changes are suitable for growing at home. As a rule, dry air prevails in apartments and houses, which means that the plant should not be afraid of it either. However, despite its hardiness and unpretentiousness, the yucca also has weak distinctive features. Too frequent watering is dangerous and harmful for such a plant, and even more so, this applies to the cold season. Thirst for yucca is not a strong problem, so it can grow for a long time without water at all. But the plant gives about overflow right away.

The frequency and volume of water to irrigate will depend on many factors, including the season, air temperature, flower size, and the size of the container where the yucca grows. They often moisten the soil from spring to autumn. As soon as the soil is five centimeters dry, the plant can be watered. At other times of the year, watering occurs much less frequently. In cold air, the plant does not consume much water. Yucca care rules vary in different regions and conditions. When watering, it is important to ensure that no water gets into the inside of the leaf rosettes. You should also not pour water between the trunks if they grow in the same container. This can provoke rotting or even death of flowers.

Along with watering, fertilizing occurs, which is very important for yucca. Most of all this is necessary for the plant during the flowering period. Although yucca is resistant to dry air, you should at least occasionally wipe its leaves with a damp cloth. It is best to carry out the procedure in the evening to avoid possible sunburn.
