In my opinion, the legend of a handsome young man tells not about narcissism, but about the incinerating power of unrequited love. After all, a young man named Narcissus did not know that he was fascinated by himself, trying to win the reciprocal love of a beautiful touch-me-not from a stream that scattered in circles, he just had to touch him a little. So he left people a memo in the form of a flower, so that they would not waste time on unrequited love, but simply love life and be its creators.

In China, the New Year is not complete without daffodils. The ancient Romans, who loved to instill fear in their neighbors, greeted their winners with yellow daffodils. And, for example, in Prussia, a fragrant flower symbolized love, was the key to a happy marriage. The newly-made wife, as a dowry, took a flower pot with a daffodil from her parents' house and carefully looked after it so that happiness would not leave her new home.

Narcissus is also loved in our country, decorating summer cottages, city flower beds and spring bouquets of flowers with it.

Classification of daffodils

A seemingly simple flower has an impressive classification. It is based on the shape and color of the crown, or, as it is sometimes called, the tube of the flower. This is the main part of the plant and differs from cultivar to cultivar. Moreover, for classification, the crown was divided into three zones: internal (lower), middle and external (extreme).

The entire classification consists of 13 groups, which in turn are divided into subgroups. To give an idea of the color of the crown, there is a "Color code" consisting of three (sometimes up to six) capital letters. With three letters, only the color of the three zones of the tube is indicated. If there are more than three letters, then the first letters indicate the color of the petals, starting from their tips to the center.

The following letters are used to characterize the colors:

• White color - letter "B" or Latin "W".

• Yellow color - letter "Ж" or Latin "Y".

• Green color - letter "З" or Latin "G".

• Red color - letter "K" or Latin "R".

• Orange color - letter "O", Latin also "O".

• Pink color - letter "P" or Latin "P".

For example, group 1 is called Tubular Daffodils of Garden Origin.

This group includes daffodils with one flower on the stem. The length of the crown is equal to or greater than the length of the perianth segment.

There are 4 subgroups in this group. Let's consider the subgroup with the number "1b". The name of the subgroup is "Two-color tubular". Daffodils have a white perianth and a colored crown.

The best varieties in this subgroup are:

• Victor Borg - LJJ (all three zones of the tube are yellow).

• Havel, Port Latta, Fife Avenue - LLC (all three tube zones are orange).

• Et Downing - BRR (two-color tube, white inside and pink in the other two zones).

Terry daffodils

Terry daffodils of garden origin belong to the 4th group of the classification. There are no subgroups in the group. The difference between the group is double flowers.

The best varieties in this group are:

• Golden Dukat - LJJJ (both petals and all tube zones are yellow).

• Copland - BBZHB (white petals and white-yellow-white tube).

• Orange Phoenix - BZHOK (white petals and yellow-orange-red tube).

• Pink Champagne - BBRR (white petals and white-pink tube).

• White Layen - BBZHB (white petals and white-yellow-white tube).

Digital coding

In addition to the group number according to the classification, the flowering time and plant height are coded in numbers.

The flowering time is indicated by numbers from 1 to 6, the larger the number, the later the flowering.

For the height of the plant, numbers from 1 to 4 are used, which corresponds to a height of 20, 20-40, 40-50 and above 50 centimeters.
