Growing peas is not so difficult, although some knowledge will still come in handy for a gardener. For example, you need to know about the correct choice of a planting site and the timing of various procedures for caring for a vegetable crop.

How to choose soil for planting peas?

Peas adapt perfectly to any soil, if it does not have high acidity. It is undesirable to plant a plant on acidic soils due to the fact that in such a place the peas will often hurt and weaken. But what to do in such a situation when the soil in the country is acidic? In this case, before sowing, liming will have to be carried out by adding three hundred and fifty grams of the component in the form of lime per square meter.

A medium loamy soil is best suited for planting peas, but it should be enriched with humus and contain sufficient moisture. Also, do not forget that groundwater should not be present in the pea planting zone, since the roots of the bushes can be located in the ground at great depths, and excess moisture can harm the plant. In addition, when choosing a place where this vegetable crop will be grown, it is necessary to select the most illuminated areas, where a large amount of sunlight falls. As a result, the site must be inspected in advance and the most suitable place must be chosen.

What types of peas are there?

Before planting peas in your garden, you need to decide on the purpose for which the vegetable grower will grow it. If we consider the structure of the plant, then it is divided into semi-sugar, sugar and shelling varieties. Of course, sugar fruits will be the sweetest and tastiest. Its pods have a delicate texture and are well suited for both fresh consumption and preservation. Hulling species are mostly used for making soups, which is why such peas are dried after harvesting. As a result, from where the peas will be used, and you need to make a start when choosing a variety. First of all, fruits such as Avola, Alpha, Vera, Amber ripen. Viola, Emerald, Dinga are of medium ripeness. But for a late harvest, you need to choose from Perfection 653, Atlanta or Sugar-2. Since different types of peas ripen at different periods, it is possible to harvest more than once in one season.

How to prepare planting material in the form of peas for sowing?

For the most efficient and high-quality selection of suitable seeds for planting peas, experienced summer residents and vegetable growers use one trick. To do this, add one level teaspoon of table salt to exactly one liter of heated water. This solution is required to pour all the seeds in the package, prepared for cultivation. The material that has surfaced for sowing is immediately removed to the far corner, it can be used later for other purposes, but in no case for growing on its site. The seeds that remain at the bottom of the container with the solution will serve as the material for planting. This will indicate that such peas do not have any damage or defects. They belong to full-fledged seeds, which means they will sprout very soon. After being pulled out of the container, such peas must be washed from salt and dried thoroughly. This preparatory procedure should be carried out in the spring period of the year.

After finishing the seed preparation, there are two methods of further actions. In the first case, to create a quick emergence of seedlings, peas are soaked with water with warm temperature indicators, which should completely cover them. In order for the seeds to swell, they must be left in this form for almost 14 hours. However, the water must be changed every three hours. By the way, for the first couple of hours, substances that stimulate growth can be added to the solution. After 14 hours, the seeds are dried and spread on a dry cloth. In the second situation, pea seeds are placed dry in the soil. Peas will swell right inside the earth. Although the seedlings will form a little later, their development will be faster and better.
