Often in our summer cottage we want to have a shady corner. Various vines are well suited for this. If you equip a gazebo or a terrace for a long time and then do not spend a lot of effort for green decoration, it is best to plant perennial vines. They grow quickly, the stems can reach a length of 20 m and do not require painstaking care. Today we are talking about some of them
Clematis
This is a semi-shrub vine. For the winter, the lignified trunks are cut to 15 cm from the surface of the earth and sprinkled with peat, and in the spring young shoots will go from here, on which extraordinary flowers will appear. There are varieties in which flowers appear on old branches. Such plants in the fall are removed from the support, laid on the ground in rings and covered with spruce branches. The diameter of the flowers depends on the variety of your plant, they can be 5 cm, and maybe 20 cm. The colors are also varied: white, blue, pink, raspberry or purple.
Small-flowered clematis are not inferior in their beauty. The diameter of their flowers does not exceed 5 cm, but they bloom more abundantly, have a scent, which cannot be said about large-flowered ones. And their flowering period is longer. These plants are also interesting for their fruits, which are collected in shaggy balls and will decorate the liana until autumn.
Schisandra chinensis
This vine has woody stems more than 10 m long. This plant grows rapidly and twists its entire support with its soft greenery. By the end of spring, small flowers appear, the diameter does not exceed 2 cm. They are either white or pink with a pleasant aroma.
In August, the fruits ripen. These are dense clusters of bright red berries, which are also a spectacular decoration. But lemongrass attracts not only with its decorativeness. His berries are edible. They have a rich vitamin composition, therefore they increase the tone. In addition, flowers and young leaves are added to tea to get a fragrant, invigorating drink. A decoction of lemongrass helps to recuperate quickly, sharpens vision, relieves drowsiness.
This plant is unpretentious. It does not need to be covered for the winter. It grows well in both sunny and shaded areas. It does not require frequent watering. But young plants need to be planted only in spring. And remember not to add fresh manure. He begins to bear fruit in the fourth year.
Actinidia
This liana with woody stems can reach a length of over 20 meters. The plant is absolutely unpretentious and grows well everywhere: in any area and on any soil. This vine tolerates winters well, the upper tender ends of young shoots freeze slightly, but grow back quickly, and the whole plant as a whole does not suffer.
Flowering usually occurs in June, but is usually very subtle, as the flowers are inconspicuous. Only a pleasant aroma attracts. The decorativeness of the plant appears in the fall. Its leaves change color and become silvery pink.
The value of this plant is also in the fruits, which have an oblong shape that resembles candy. They taste like kiwi and are equated with rose hips in terms of vitamins. But in order for the vine to bear fruit, two plants should be planted - male and female, they should be planted at a distance of about 2 meters.
Herbaceous perennial vines
Calistegia Is a perennial bindweed. The plant has very long roots, so the planting site should be fenced with plastic deep borders. The flowers are very similar to the morning glory, but have a pale pink hue and bloom almost all day. There are varieties with double flowers that resemble roses and look very impressive. Flowering is very abundant and continues until late autumn. Seeds are not formed on them, therefore, the rhizome should be carefully handled so as not to disturb it during digging or transplanting.
Calistegia
Aconite - grows well in the northern part of the site or in shady corners. In early spring, a bush appears that grows quickly and braids the support. Finger-cut leaves look very elegant, but purple flowers in the form of an elongated helmet give special beauty. This form of flowers gave the second name to the plant - skullcap.
Baldzhuan buckwheat - this vine can reach a length of 6 meters. But the plant is very thermophilic, so it is recommended to plant it only in sunny places and cover it for the winter. Gardeners are attracted by spectacular white-pink flowers that gather in brushes that are almost 50 cm long. The stems of the plant branch well and can quickly braid a trellis, arch or other support.
