In the first month of spring, a hot season begins for fans of garden floriculture. During this period, it is necessary to closely monitor the crops for seedlings, which were carried out in February, and do not forget about the next batch, which has come to occupy greenhouses and nurseries. Well, for some hurry-ups it is already time to prepare the beds in order to sow directly into the open ground. But first things first
Protect crops from blackleg
The main task of the florist, who in February managed to sow petunia and lobelia, snapdragon and Shabo carnation, ageratum and other plants, is to protect them from diseases and dive into a large area in time.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to protect the flowers from the development of the fungus. As a rule, the conditions for the defeat of this infection develop in such unfavorable conditions as thickened crops, excessive moisture, too abundant watering. With such factors, the black leg is not long in coming.
The danger can be recognized by the characteristic blackening and a decrease in the volume of the hypocotal area of the stalk. From this disease, the flower quickly withers, dries up and soon all its parts die off. Therefore, you should remove it from the common nursery as soon as possible. The rest of the seedlings are treated with a fungicide 2-3 times a week. For example, you can use a solution of zineb.
Seedling picking and seedling care
Thickened crops not only create favorable conditions for the development of diseases, but also generally weaken the flowers, if you do not pick the plantings in time to provide them with a larger area of nutrition. Otherwise, they will compete with their garden neighbors for moisture intake, water-borne nutrients, and even sunlight.
The picking method depends on the size of the seedlings. When the shoots of petunia or lobelia are very miniature, it is permissible to transplant them directly in bunches. Later, when the plants grow up, they are dived separately.
It is important to maintain the correct seedling depth. The plants are buried in cotyledonous leaves. If you plant them too high, they do not take root well, stretch out, weaken.
After transplanting, the flowers must be well watered. In the first few days, they are shaded during the day. Another week after that, at noon, protection from direct sunlight is installed.
What annuals continue to sow for seedlings in March?
Those who did not manage to sow annuals in February should hurry up to do it in March - you are still meeting the required deadlines. However, the boxes in the rooms can be populated with crops of the following crops. On the vacated areas, you can place sweet peas, asters, purslane, zinnia, carnations.
If you have no experience in transplanting flowers from pots into open ground, it is better to wait a little while the soil is suitable and sow decorative sweet peas directly into the flower beds, as it does not tolerate such procedures well. The beetroot and medicinal poppy are distinguished by the same feature. But in defense of the latter, it should be noted that they are famous for their rapid development, early flowering and undemanding to warm weather in their initial period of development.
Calendula is sown in nurseries. The nutrient substrate must be pre-moistened abundantly. The seeds are immersed to a depth of 2-3 cm. They do not require special pre-sowing preparation, but it should be borne in mind that green specimens germinate poorly, therefore, when distributing them into separate cups, it is better to put them aside.
Crops are left in a warm place. Seedlings will appear in 3-5 days, but sometimes this process takes a week. After that, the temperature of the seedlings is lowered so that the seedlings do not stretch out. When the seeds do not germinate together, the more agile seedlings will have to add soil to the stalks so that they do not lose quality until their lagging gathers appear on the soil surface.
