Planting zucchini seedlings

Propagation of zucchini by seedlings is a very profitable technique. First of all, this way you can save seed, since the plants sown directly into the ground will have to be thinned out. And when sowing seeds, first for seedlings, the gardener will already know for sure how tightly to plant the plants so that they do not interfere with each other's growth and development. In addition, sowing seedlings can be carried out early, regardless of the weather outside the window, and the harvest will be removed earlier. And while others are just about to eat fresh zucchini, you will already have ripe fruits in your beds

Preplant soil preparation

Zucchini seedlings are planted on loose fertile soils. Heavy soil or too wet areas are not suitable for this purpose. On acidic soils, it is recommended to add wood ash, dolomite flour. It is advisable to take care of the cultivation of the soil for the beds with zucchini in advance, thoroughly digging up the garden and generously filling with organic fertilizers.

Zucchini is a cold-resistant culture, but it prefers warmth. And if the soil warms up poorly in spring, this process can be accelerated by watering the beds with warm water and covering it with a film to make things go faster.

Preparing seedlings for transplanting

It is necessary to plant seedlings in the ground "in a big way". Zucchini lashes grow long, they need space, so the distance between the holes is made 50-70 cm, and the row spacing is left at least 0.5 m. By this time, the plants should have formed at least 2 true leaves. This occurs when the seedlings are 25-30 days old.

Shortly before transplanting seedlings, it should be watered so that it can be easily removed from the pots. Plants are very fragile and can break easily. In this regard, it is better to grow seedlings in peat cups made from newspaper sheets. They are placed in boxes, and then taken with him to the beds, easily unrolling the paper to remove the plant. Then you will not need to dig in, injuring the roots, or shake out the seedlings from the pots in order to transfer them into the ground with an earthen clod.

Moving seedlings to the beds

Seedlings are planted in the evening. From the first days of transplantation, zucchini will need elements such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus. Therefore, it is recommended that when planting directly into the hole, add quite a bit of nitroammophoska. Before planting, each well is moistened with 1 liter of water. When the water is absorbed, you can immerse the seedlings in the hole. Having buried the seedlings in the ground, their roots are hidden under moist soil. If the seedlings are very elongated, they are immersed in the ground almost to the oval cotyledon leaves. The earth needs to be compacted, and, if necessary, add some more dry earth.

Further care

Typically, the seedlings move to the beds in May. But the weather this month is extremely unpredictable. Following the sultry days, frosts can unexpectedly strike, and plants suffer greatly from such temperature changes. Seedlings are especially vulnerable during this period. After all, plants are stressed by changing their place of residence. Therefore, individual shelters are built for seedlings from cut plastic bottles. In good weather, these caps should be removed. You can make a cover from a film, but this is not very convenient due to the large gap between the planted plants.

Watering the seedlings in the beds should be water heated outside during the day. If you moisten plantings with cold water directly from a well or a column, the plants will begin to rot. Remember to loosen the soil and weed the beds. In the process, push apart the leaves under which the flowers are hiding - this will make it easier for pollinating insects to reach them.
