Today there is such a wide selection of seeds in stores that bright packages and unfamiliar names sound mysterious and intriguing. Let's try to look into several of these picturesque envelopes promising to replenish our flower beds with pink and purple colors
Ageratum
The flowers of the plant of this species have different colors, ranging from different shades of white to sky-blue, but among them there are specimens of pink-purple color. These include:
• Variety "Fire Pink" - bushes 20-30 centimeters high, giving loose dark pink inflorescences, which at the bud stage have a bright lilac hue.
• Variety "Hawaii Royal" - decorates the garden with dark pink flowers.
For long flowering (from mid-June to frost) ageratum is popularly called "long-flowered", and for its ability to keep the color of inflorescences long and persistently, the plant got its official name in Latin - "Ageratum", which means "ageless". Its compact bushes from 15 to 60 centimeters in height are covered with multi-flowered, almost spherical, fluffy inflorescences exuding a delicate aroma during the flowering period.
In culture, this perennial plant is grown as an annual, since it is thermophilic and does not tolerate our cold winters. Ageratum is photophilous and drought-resistant. Prefers loose, light soils.
Grown through seedlings. Sowing seeds is carried out in early April, replanting seedlings in open ground in June, when the danger of frost has passed. To increase the flowering period, faded inflorescences are removed.
Ageratum is suitable for curbs, ridges, color spots on the lawn. Low-growing varieties are planted on balconies, terraces, alpine slides.
Aubrieta (aubrieta)
A representative of perennial herbaceous plants that bloom profusely and for a long time. Its creeping stems, 10-15 centimeters high, adorn rock gardens and gardens all over Europe with their hemispherical spectacular curtains. The small flowers of the aubriet have a wide palette of colors, among which there are pink-red, purple, violet, blue (less often white). Flowers are collected in racemose inflorescences.
The plant loves sunny places and sandy-sod soils. Prefers moist soils, but without stagnant water, with good drainage.
Propagated by seeds, cuttings and dividing the bush.
Perfect for alpine slides, curbs, various types of flower beds, where it is harmoniously combined with other ornamental plants. For example, with white Iberis, yellow alissum, undersized subulate phlox.
Perilla
A perennial herb, Perilla, is prized for the color of its leaves and stems. By creating the perilla, nature deviated from its usual rules for coloring leaves in green tones, giving them, along with green, an unusual violet-red or even black-red colors. There are species with variegated leaves.
Plant height varies from 50 to 100 centimeters. Lilac racemose inflorescences of perilla are collected from nondescript small flowers and are not a criterion for choosing a plant for a flower garden. The choice remains with the spectacular leaves.
Perilla loves warmth and sunlit areas. Prefers soils rich in humus, loose, without stagnant water.
To create the desired shape and height of the bush, pinch the tops of the shoots.
Perilla is propagated by seeds and cuttings.
Perilla is used in rabatkas, mixborders, borders. The plant is used to decorate balconies and terraces.
In some Asian countries, perilla leaves are added to salads, and also used as a spice in various dishes, calling the plant "shiso". Oil is obtained from perilla seeds, which is used for industrial purposes. After special purification, the oil is used for medicinal purposes and in cooking.
