Main characteristics of watering cans

Watering cans can be made of a wide variety of materials - zinc, copper, plastic, etc. Plastic watering cans have gained great popularity for their lightness and cheapness. However, if the surface of such watering cans in the light is cloudy and with numerous stains, such assistants will not last long, since, most likely, they were made from recycled materials. In addition, plastic watering cans can undergo deformation under the influence of sunlight and temperature extremes.

Metal watering cans, although stronger than plastic ones, are very heavy and can quickly rust at the joints if not properly maintained. And they are more expensive than plastic ones. When purchasing such watering cans, close attention should be paid to the quality of the welds.

Zinc and copper watering cans have the ability to purify water. The antiseptic and fungicidal properties of zinc oxide are a very valuable quality.

Watering cans are also made of stainless steel - small specimens are perfect for indoor floriculture.

It is extremely important for garden watering cans that they are very stable, their spout should start almost at the base, and the top opening should be quite wide. To make it easier to fill them with water, it is better to choose models with relatively wide filling holes. Also, it is not recommended to put metal watering cans on the ground, as scratches may appear on their coating, and the watering cans will soon rust.

For pedantic summer residents who invariably follow the recipe for various dressings, watering cans are made with graduated marks for greater convenience in dosage, and models of watering cans with a spray will appeal to those who like to spray vegetation.

Nozzles

There are many different nozzles on the spouts of watering cans, and which one to give preference depends entirely on the type of work.

In order to get a sufficiently strong jet of water, nozzles are often dispensed with at all. This is especially practiced when watering shrubs. But for watering young plantings, the trickle should be scattered and not eroding the ground, therefore, in this case, nozzles will be required that, depending on the model, have holes with a diameter of 0.8 to 1.5 mm.

It is best to stock up on several types of attachments in reserve - removable attachments get lost quite easily. And nozzles with removable strainers are better, as it will be more convenient to clean them.

Watering can volume

First of all, the volume of the watering can is selected taking into account the individual characteristics of the summer resident and depends on how much he is able to transfer. Large watering cans, with a volume of 10 - 13 liters, are more suitable for men, and for women, a volume of 5 - 6 liters or less will be the most optimal.

The undoubted advantage of large-volume watering cans is that they have to be filled less often, but sometimes you have to run decently with small containers.

For watering potted vegetation, watering cans with a volume of three to five liters are generally chosen, equipped with a curved and rather long spout. The small capacity of these devices is also well suited for watering seedlings. Typically, these watering cans are used without attachments.

Ideally, it is better to purchase several different models of watering cans, for watering the garden - more, and for delicate work - less.
