Small neat seabuckthorn trees, the branches of which are densely covered with bright orange fruits, make the garden look like an exotic tropical. But sea buckthorn is not only an exquisite decoration of a personal plot. It is also a source of human health and longevity

How to get sea buckthorn oil

For medicinal purposes, you can harvest all parts of this plant. But the most popular are the juicy fruits of this humble tree. First of all, they are rich in ascorbic acid. In addition, the fruits contain such "elements of youth" as vitamin E and folic acid. In addition to vitamins, sea buckthorn is valued for a set of essential trace elements, as well as two types of fatty oils. Red oil is found in the pulp and yellow oil in the seeds of the fruit.

Sea buckthorn oil can also be extracted at home. To do this, you first need to get juice from the harvested berries. It is left in a cold place to settle. At the same time, the oil contained in the juice begins to separate and float to the surface. It must be carefully collected. This method of oil extraction is considered to be of the highest quality, and the collected product is considered the most useful.

But the berry cake remaining after squeezing out the juice is not thrown away, but used to obtain another product. This waste is crushed and then mixed with sunflower oil. The mixture is given time to infuse, and then the oil is separated from the remains of the sea buckthorn by pressing.

The use of sea buckthorn oil for medicinal purposes

Sea buckthorn oil is highly valued because it contains a large amount of biologically active substances. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, has an analgesic effect, and promotes early wound healing. It is used externally and ingested.

The miraculous property of the oil is also manifested in the stimulation of epithelialization of damaged tissues. Therefore, the agent is used to combat the symptoms of stomach and duodenal ulcers. The oil is taken three times a day, a teaspoon before meals. The course of treatment is 3-4 weeks. The first days of treatment of patients may be disturbed by an increase in the sensation of heartburn and the appearance of sour belching. A solution of baking soda mixed with oil will help to cope with these side effects.

The use of sea buckthorn oil also helps to heal ailments such as eczema, scaly lichen, lupus ulcer. In addition to ingestion, sore spots are treated with sea buckthorn oil ointment.

This tool is widely used in gynecology. For example, sea buckthorn oil tampons are used to treat cervical erosion. Epithelialization of damaged tissues, as a rule, occurs in a week or two, providing a lasting effect. This folk method is also good because sea buckthorn does not irritate the mucous membrane. The oil is non-toxic and can be recommended for the treatment of pregnant women when the list of drugs approved for use is significantly limited.

Harvesting sea buckthorn fruits for the winter

Fresh fruits of sea buckthorn can be used not only for the preparation of miraculous oil, but also prepared for future use for the winter. For this, the fruits must be washed. So that they do not choke and do not lose juice, you can wash the berries directly on a branch under a strong stream of water. And only then rob them. Place in an enamel bowl and mix with granulated sugar in a 1: 1 ratio.

Half-liter glass jars are filled with this mixture. But not to the top, but by about four-fifths of the volume. The remaining space in the jar is filled with pure sugar. The containers are covered with parchment paper and intercepted with twine. Store in a cool place.

How and when to collect sea buckthorn

Do not pick off the fruit as soon as it acquires its characteristic orange color. The sea buckthorn is harvested in late autumn. It is better to wait for the first frost and already start harvesting after this.

You can pick fruits directly from the tree. But not with bare hands, but with a special scraper. In addition, it is permissible to cut the fruit from the tree with a pruner directly with the twigs. But in this way, only blind branches should be cut, which will dry up next year and will not give growth. And promising ones are robbed with hands or special tools.
