If you want to have a bright, but easy-to-care indoor plant, take a closer look at the anthurium. This guest from South America will undoubtedly become a loud accent in the interior, captivating attention with large, rich green leaves and unusual flowers, which can bloom in all their glory in July
Unique beauty and grace of anthurium
Anthurium is not as simple as it might seem at a quick glance. This houseplant has a very unusual cob-shaped inflorescence, under which there is an original cover-cover, which can be mistaken for a wide-blooming bud. Flowers on a long curved ear (which is why anthurium got its name, which means "flower" and "tail") or spherical inflorescences are arranged in a spiral, and upon closer examination, their shape is similar to squares or elongated rhombuses. The cover of the inflorescence often repeats the shape of the leaves, but somewhat smaller and more textured, with a leathery shiny structure. When the cover of the inflorescence is green, it practically merges with the foliage. But the bedspread can also be white, light green, red, purple, burgundy, yellowish, pink. Often, his tones smoothly flow into each other from different saturations of shades of green to pink and white.
Large, heart-shaped leaves on a long, thick petiole also have a very attractive appearance. In decorative deciduous varieties, the dark green plate of the leaf surface is decorated with white longitudinal and transverse veins, forming a beautiful contrasting pattern.
Conditions for keeping and caring for a flower
Anthurium is grown in pots with low sides and a wide opening. Flowers need good drainage. The soil mixture is made up of:
• deciduous land with a rough structure - 2 parts;
• marsh moss in pieces - 1 part;
• turf land - 1 part.
The transplant is performed very carefully, because the roots of the anthurium are brittle and easily damaged. The plant should be placed in the substrate somewhat deeper than it previously grew in the previous pot. When transplanting, the soil mixture is lightly tamped, but to such an extent to ensure good air access to the root system. In addition, it is advisable to strengthen the freshly transplanted plant with a garter to a support - a peg, a ladder. After this procedure, the pot should be left in a warm place.
Regular watering is resumed after the transplanted plant has rooted. Carefully monitor the condition of the roots in the pot. If they appear on the surface of the soil, they should be hidden under damp moss. In addition to watering anthurium, spraying with water is useful, as well as wiping the leaves from dust with a damp sponge.
Anthurium is a thermophilic plant. In summer, the most optimal temperature for the content will be about + 25 ° С, and in winter - not lower than + 18 ° С. In addition, in the colder months, watering is carried out with warm water. The pot must be protected from drafts and cold air currents. At the same time, the flower needs to be shaded from direct sunlight, and the best place in the house will be the location near the east and west windows. With such care and favorable conditions, the flowering period is not limited to June-July, but continues throughout the summer.
Reproduction of anthurium at home
Reproduction of anthurium is carried out in various ways: both by seeds and vegetatively. Sowing is performed immediately after collecting the inoculum. This requires a lightweight substrate. It can be prepared from equal parts:
• moss;
• peat;
• deciduous land.
Flowering varieties can also be propagated by dividing the bush, and decorative deciduous varieties by cuttings; for this, the tops of the stems with air roots are suitable.
