Each flower has five petals, from which stamens with yellow anthers stick out.
By the end of summer, the flowers give way to drupes, which are colored black, blue or red, depending on the species. People eat black fruits, and red ones signal danger, hinting at their toxicity.

Black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is a frequenter of European forests up to 10 meters high with a very branched trunk. Green in summer, odd-pinnate leaves, located on a branch of 3-7 pieces, turn into bronze in autumn. Fragrant, lush inflorescences of creamy white flowers bloom in the spring to turn into purple-black edible fruits by the end of summer. Excellent honey plant. Flowers have healing qualities.
