From the second half of February to mid-March, you can start sowing lobelia seedlings. These annuals come in many varieties. They are grown both as a curb crop and as an ampelous plant. But the seeding rules are similar for everyone
Requirements for soil and sowing capacity
Lobelia seeds are very small, smaller than a poppy seed, and this determines many rules that must be followed in order to successfully grow flower seedlings. It is very important that the soil for sowing is of high quality, sufficiently loose, air and moisture permeable. To do this, use a greenhouse soil, compost with peat. When the soil is not loose enough, this is compensated by the addition of coarse sand. Sowing can be carried out in peat tablets for seedlings.
Lobelia, already at the stage of sowing seeds in the ground, does not tolerate stagnant water. Therefore, in addition to loose soil, it must be provided with drainage. For this, in the containers for sowing, there must be special holes at the bottom. In addition, it is recommended to cover the bottom with coarse sand.
As for the sowing container, it is good if it is approximately 7-8 cm high. It is easy to adapt plastic boxes from eggs or other food products to these needs. It is very useful when they have a transparent lid - it provides a greenhouse environment, and at the same time does not interfere with the penetration of light. But it is important that it opens easily so as not to disturb the crops at the moments of airing. The same role can be played by cut 5-liter bottles, inverted glass jars, or you can simply cover crops with a transparent bag.
If the container previously contained any products, the container must be thoroughly washed and disinfected so that there is no danger of mold development.
Sowing lobelia seeds for seedlings
It is recommended to wipe the soil for sowing through a large sieve before use. The container is filled with soil so that its level is 1-2 cm below the sides. Immediately before sowing, the nutrient substrate must be abundantly moistened. For this they take hot water. Due to the high temperature, condensation forms under the closed lid, and there will be no need to spray the crops again, so that small seeds do not go too low into the soil layer.
Pouring seeds onto the substrate directly from the packaging is irrational. It will be extremely problematic to distribute them evenly over the soil surface. Therefore, it is more convenient to pre-mix the seed with fine dry sand, and then spread this mixture in a thin layer over damp soil. It is not enough to cut off just one edge of the package to remove the seeds from the package. A good part of the smallest seed can stick to the paper - in winter in conditions of increased dry air and due to their miniature size, they easily electrify and stick to surfaces.
When the seed is transferred to the soil, the container is closed and left in a dark place at a temperature of approximately + 15 … + 18 degrees C. You need to closely monitor the appearance of seedlings on the surface. This process takes less than a week. As soon as at least one appears, the container with this precious thin shoot is immediately moved to a well-lit corner of the house. In addition, it is useful to carry out supplementary lighting of seedlings. For this, a fluorescent lamp low-lying above the crops is used.
Care consists in regular moistening of the soil and ventilation. The optimal way of watering is to irrigate with a thin stream from the container watering can along the sides, so as not to damage the delicate stems. But drying out of the soil is also detrimental to flowers. After watering, the excess water is drained from the pan.
Every day, the seedlings are left open longer. This will harden the seedlings and prepare them for future open field planting.

Cooking Tomato Seeds For Sowing
Novice gardeners need to know everything about planting procedures for growing tomatoes. Seed preparation is an important fact not only to improve germination, but also to prevent diseases and increase yields. Read about all the preparatory stages that begin in the middle lane from the 10th of February
A Little About Preparing Seeds For Sowing
It's a shame when work is invested in the seedlings and the future harvest, and suddenly the plants begin to hurt and die. Where does such an attack come from, when the soil is clean, and the greenhouse is disinfected, and the seeds with high germination capacity? The fact is that an outwardly healthy grain can be initially infected with a disease. And in order to protect the crop from being damaged by bacterial, viral and fungal ailments that are transmitted through seeds, before sowing, you need to take time to disinfect them
Preparing Tomato Seeds For Sowing
It seems that quite recently the harvest of the past summer was harvested, and the hot time of preparation for the new season is already approaching again. This is especially true for those gardeners who grow tomatoes on their plot. The full cycle of processing tomato seeds is quite long, and if you omit such measures, this will largely affect their taste, resistance to diseases, pests and vagaries of the weather, and as a result - the final harvest. So what needs to be done before
Seeds: What You Need To Know Before Sowing
No wonder they say that in the garden one day - feeds the whole year. This rule is equally true for both summer and winter days. After all, if in winter we visit our summer cottages less often, this does not mean that work has stopped. And if empty columns are now found in your gardener's calendar, urgently plan and enter into them the preparation of seeds for sowing. Otherwise, both early harvest and friendly seedlings will be in jeopardy
Eggplant: Preparing And Sowing Seeds For Seedlings
The main difficulty in growing eggplants is that they are very heat demanding and at the same time have a long development period. Therefore, in the conditions of the middle lane, vegetables are propagated through seedlings, taking into account the fact that at the time of moving to open ground, it should be about 60 days old, and about a month will pass from the day the ovary appears to technical maturity. Therefore, it is impossible to delay sowing seeds. What should not be forgotten in the course of such work?
