Mraceae) … The plant delights with its large leaves, the shape of which, perhaps, suggested to the masters of stringed musical instruments how to make them, so that they emit melodious sounds, delighting the human ear, and delight a person with their outlines. In addition, Ficus lyre produces amazing fruits typical for plants of the genus, although they do not have such popularity as the fruits of the Fig tree, also called "Fig tree", "Fig", or the botanical name "Ficus carica".
Description
The lyre ficus can pose a threat to the trees on which he manages to start his life in this world. Perched in the crown of a tropical tree, it begins to grow aerial roots, like Orchids living in trees. But orchids do not interfere with their support, but the Ficus is lyre-like, increasing the length of its roots in order to reach the surface of the earth and firmly rooted in the soil, since it does not intend to be an epiphyte for a long time, often wraps around the tree that has sheltered it with such strong embraces that the tree dies. But this is not always the case. More often the plant begins its life, showing shoots immediately from the soil, as do all woody creatures of nature respecting themselves and others. In such cases, Ficus lyre is a separately growing tree, the height of which, depending on living conditions, can reach from twelve to fifteen meters, which is two to three times less than the height of rubber-bearing Fikus.
The most picturesque part of the plant is its curly large leaves, up to half a meter long with a leaf plate width of thirty centimeters. Considering that the surface of the leaf plate is leathery and covered with a wax coating, from three to five of these leaves you can build an excellent umbrella, along which the streams of the pouring rain will easily roll down. Indeed, Ficus lyre is an inhabitant of warm tropical forests located in West Africa, where rain is not uncommon. But rain streams do not harm such leaves, rolling down them, as we freely slide down a snowy hill in winter.
The picturesqueness of the leaves is given by their lyre-like shape, which was the reason for the specific epithet. People compare the shape of the leaves to the shape of a number of stringed musical instruments. Since the Ficus are much older than musical instruments, it can be assumed that the masters spied on the shape for the instruments from the Lyre Ficus. The wavy edge of the leaf plate adds lyricism to the leaves. On the surface of the leaf plate, a branched network of light veins is clearly distinguished, as if duplicating the pattern of a branched tree. Breeders have bred varieties with spotted leaves.
The size of the spherical fruits of the Lyre Ficus is inferior to the size of the popular Fig, reaching two to three centimeters in diameter. Moreover, the structure of the fruit is typical for plants of the genus. Fruit color is greenish-boggy.
Usage
In areas with a warm and humid climate, Lyre Ficus is an adornment of parks, gardens and roadsides, delighting people with its spectacular large leaves and simultaneously purifying the air from harmful impurities.
Fans of the plant, who are not too lucky with the climate, grow Ficus lyre in flower pots, choosing a place for it that is well lit and maintaining sufficient air humidity. A plant's love for moisture does not mean that its roots should be in stagnant water, which provokes root rot and the death of Ficus. The room must be large enough for Ficus to be able to showcase all of its gigantic beauty.
