Description

Due to branching shoots, the width of the bushes reaches forty centimeters.
Whole gray-green or dark green small oval, oval-oblong leaves contain essential oils, exuding a spicy aroma, settling on short stalks.
The compact capitate inflorescence is formed by two-lipped small mauve or purple flowers, the corolla of which is protected by a calyx of toothed sepals with long cilia along the edge. Inflorescences are located in the leaf axils.
The crown of the growing cycle is a fractional fruit, called by botanists the word "coenobium" (from the ancient Greek word meaning "community" or "life together"). It is a community of four rounded nuts arranged in a flower cup.
Usage
Thyme has been known to people since ancient times. The embalming of Egyptian mummies was not complete without it. Romans, in love with the scent of Thyme, planted it all over Europe, using the plant to disinfect their homes, as well as flavoring cheeses and alcoholic beverages. The plant was considered a good invigorating drug, relieves fatigue, and an aphrodisiac. The "thymol" (a representative of phenol) contained in the essential oil is an effective antiseptic that overcomes fungal diseases of the skin and nails, cleansing the oral cavity from unwanted harmful microbes. Scientific studies have shown that Thyme is beneficial in treating acne. Thyme herb tea is used to treat bronchitis.
All parts of the plant exude a divine aroma, regardless of the place of planting, and therefore Common Thyme has won the hearts of gardeners. The picturesque and fragrant shrub is very popular with gardeners as a ground cover plant, and is also used to decorate alpine hills and stone walls. A rather unpretentious plant prefers places open to the sun, loose sandy soils, drought-resistant, cold-resistant and does not like clay and damp soils. Although Thyme is a perennial plant, it does not live long. But the plant propagates very easily by cuttings, so periodically it is necessary to update the planting.
Many ornamental varieties of Thyme have been bred, one of which, with white leaves and called the "Silver Queen", was awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society of Great Britain.
From flower nectar, bees produce fragrant, healing honey.
Fragrant leaves of Thyme vulgaris are used in cooking as a spice for various dishes.
Fans of Thyme vulgaris consider it more aromatic (spicy, piquant) than Oregano (or Oregano), and sweeter than Sage. Thyme is preferable to use fresh, but even in dry form it retains its taste and aroma much more effectively than many of its other aromatic relatives.
