Such leaves can be either serrated or notched-lobed, they are endowed with pointed blades and teeth, at the base they will be wedge-shaped, and their length reaches twenty-five centimeters. From above, the leaves of this plant are painted in dark green tones, from below they will be grayish-green, at a young age such leaves are finely hairy, then such rare hairs will remain only along the veins. Datura flowers are single, they are axillary or apical, they are also quite large and odorous, such flowers are white in color. The corolla and calyx will be multi-leaved, they are five-membered. Datura fruits are rather large and oval in shape, they are four-celled. Such fruits are boxes covered with thorns, which will open with four leaves. The seeds will be flattened and kidney-shaped, colored black and endowed with a reticular surface.
Datura common flowering occurs in the period from June to September. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of the European part of Russia, as well as in the Caucasus, Central Asia and in the south of Western Siberia. Description of the medicinal properties of dope ordinary
For medicinal purposes, it is recommended to harvest the leaves and tops of this plant, which should be done during flowering, while the seeds of the common dope are collected in the autumn from ripe fruits. The same leaves that are harvested with dew and after rain will turn black pretty quickly. The raw materials of this plant are dried in the shade, in dryers or in attics. Such raw materials can be stored for two years.
The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content of alkaloids in the plant: atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine. It is noteworthy that the alkaloid atropine in high doses has the ability to stimulate the cerebral cortex, while in smaller doses it will stimulate respiration and act as an antispasmodic.
The leaves of this plant will also contain essential oil, carotene and tannins.
For insomnia, it is recommended to use a very valuable remedy based on ordinary dope: to prepare such a remedy, you will need to take one part of crushed seed for five parts of seventy percent alcohol. The resulting mixture should be infused for seven days, and then this mixture is thoroughly filtered. Take two drops of this remedy in two tablespoons of water four to five times a day.
A decoction of the leaves of this plant is used as a sitz bath for prolapse of the uterus and rectum, and full baths with such a remedy are taken for chronic rheumatism. The decoction of the leaves is twenty grams of dope leaves per bucket of water.
