Kirkazon tree (lat. Aristolochia arborea) - wood; a representative of the Kirkazon genus of the Kirkazonov family. Found naturally in Central America. It grows mainly in tropical forests. Almost never occurs in Russia. It differs from other species of the genus in shape, because most are represented in the form of perennial herbaceous vines or climbing shrubs.
Characteristics of culture
Arboreal Kirkazon is a small tree up to 6 m high with a thin trunk covered with a well-developed cork layer and fissured bark. The leaves, like other representatives, are very large, whole-edged, simple, petiolate, elliptical in shape, reach 20-30 cm in length, 12-15 cm in width. Flowers are zygomorphic, tubular, up to 8 cm in diameter, formed in numerous groups at the base of the stem, sometimes they form in the forks of branches. The corolla of the flower is reduced, its role is played by the petal calyx.
The perianth of the Kirkazona treelike flower is three-lobed, reddish-brown (as in most species), has a wide white spot in the lower part. Blooms in mid-summer. The seeds ripen in mid-autumn. Decorative species, suitable for ornamental gardening. Unusual and unique, such plants are rarely found in nature. Moreover, surprise is caused not only by the original flowers, their structure and colors, but also by their location.
Landing features
There is nothing remarkable and special in planting Kirkazon seedlings. Planting is preferable in spring, autumn planting is not prohibited. The depth of the planting pit is 50-60 cm, the diameter is 50 cm. A drainage layer is laid on the bottom. Both coarse sand and broken brick can be used as drainage. The drainage layer is 20-25 cm, the rest of the pit is filled with a fertile, loose and moisture-consuming soil mixture. The mixture is prepared a few days before planting.
One of the most suitable substrates is made up of turf, sand and rotted humus in a ratio of 2: 1: 2. It is also recommended to add a small amount of peat and leaf compost to the mixture, made up of leaves of oak, alder, maple, linden and other broad-leaved trees. It can also be used as mulch. By the way, mulching is useful, it will allow you to somewhat simplify care, for example, to reduce the number of watering, weeding and loosening. When planting a Kirkazon seedling, a tree support is not required. When planting, the voids are filled with soil mixture, tamped and watered abundantly.
Care
Care must be thorough and regular. Watering, feeding and loosening. It is important to remember that the tree Kirkazon is difficult to tolerate the dryness of the soil and air, it can be compensated for by watering and frequent spraying. The amount of dressings depends on the fertility of the soil on the site. If the soil is poor, then the plants are fed every two weeks with a liquid mullein infusion. If fertile, then two dressings are enough per season.
The near-trunk zone should be kept clean of weeds, in order to exclude weeding, it is necessary to apply a layer of mulch, it can be a dead leaf (as already mentioned), peat, loose humus, compost and other organic material. The layer of mulch is 5-8 cm. Periodically, the mulch is renewed with a new portion. In addition, mulch is capable of retaining moisture and eliminating moisture fluctuations in the soil, which is important.
Propagation by cuttings
The type of Kirkazon under consideration is propagated by seeds and vegetatively. Getting the seeds of the culture is problematic, so many use the vegetative method, namely summer or winter cuttings. Winter grafting involves harvesting shoots in the fall and laying them in the sand for storage in a room with a temperature of 0-5C. In the third decade of April, shoots are taken out and cut into cuttings about 40 cm long. Important: each cuttings should have 2 buds. The lower cut of the cutting is powdered with growth stimulants, this will speed up the rooting process.
Cuttings are planted in an inclined position in pre-prepared grooves. The voids of the grooves are filled with a mixture of garden soil and decayed foliage. The soil should be light, loamy, permeable. It is advisable to mulch ridges with cuttings with moss. Further care of the cuttings consists in weeding, gentle loosening and watering. With proper care and favorable conditions, the cuttings take root in 3-4 months. True, it will not work to achieve 100% rooting, the maximum is 60-65%.
