The Latin name of such a plant as

acitander bicolor sounds like Acidanthera bicolor Hochst. Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of the plant.

Acitandera is a bulbous perennial plant, the height of which can reach up to one hundred and twenty centimeters in length. The stems of this plant can be either simple or branched at the very top. The length of the leaves is about forty to fifty centimeters, they are light green in color, which can be either linear or xiphoid. The flowers of the plant, together with the tube, reach twelve centimeters in diameter, they are creamy white in color, in their center there is a rather large blackish-red spot. These flowers have an incredibly fragrant aroma. Flowers are collected in three to eight pieces per inflorescence, which will be spike-shaped. This inflorescence is located on a thin, rather high peduncle. This plant blooms from August to September. The corms have rounded shapes, they are about three centimeters in diameter, their color is milky white and they are covered with a rather dense brown shell.

Plant care

Reproduction of acitander bicolor occurs by means of corms and seeds. If you choose seed propagation, then you have to wait for the beginning of flowering, it is for this reason that this method of propagation is not the most common. Seeds are planted as seedlings around February-March, the soil should be rich in fertilizers and pre-loosened. Grown seedlings should be picked.

Reproduction is also available through children, of which there are a lot of corms. Planting children should be carried out in the spring, the soil should also be pre-loosened. You can also make replenishment by means of mullein infusion or any other mineral and organic fertilizers.

Actually, the origin of the plant explains its requirements for care. Acitander needs bright sunlight and the absence of strong winds. For soil, drained sandy or slightly acidic soils are ideal. The soil should always be moist, and after planting it is recommended to mulch the soil. The plant does not need an excessive amount of water, but it is also not worthwhile to allow the soil to dry out.

For early flowering, the plant can be planted in pots at the very beginning of March, and acitandera can be planted in the garden closer to the end of May, when there is no possibility of night frosts. The plant bulbs should be treated with fungicides in order to avoid the occurrence of a number of putrefactive diseases to which this plant is so susceptible. The plant should be planted to a depth of about ten centimeters, and the distance between the plants should be about twenty centimeters.

In the event that the flower was not previously grown at home, but was planted immediately in open ground, then it will be necessary to cover the acitander in case of cold snaps. Closer to the winter period of time, the tubers of the plant should be covered with dry leaves or in another way. Such a covering of tubers is also permissible by means of peat. Throughout the growing season, it is recommended to fertilize with mineral fertilizers two to three times. In order for the flower to always amaze with its incredibly attractive appearance, those inflorescences that have already bloomed should be promptly removed.

For a home plant, the following soil is required: a mixture of humus, sand, leafy and soddy soil. The plant should be kept in the house in a bright and warm room, where the temperature regime will be about twenty degrees.
