For several years I studied literature, collected information from neighbors on growing large-fruited garden strawberries on black non-woven material. 4 years ago I decided on such an experiment at my site. Now I will share with you the results of my experience
Beautiful planting of strawberries without a single weed on non-woven fabric from neighbors has long attracted my attention. Doubts remained about the feasibility of this project.
What are the advantages of black fabric:
• facilitates weed control (only perennials emerge from the roots, annuals cannot withstand shading);
• berries are clean, in rainy weather they do not get dirty with earth;
• there is no need to mulch and loosen plantings;
• insulation of roots in winter;
• air, water easily pass through shelters, puddles do not form;
• durability (the material is enough for 4-5 years of use);
• at optimal planting density, the defeat of berries by gray rot is reduced.
There are few negative factors, but they are still there:
1. It is difficult to grow a mustache.
2. Perennial weeds are difficult to remove from under the material.
3. The need to fix the blade, especially at the very beginning of operation. The wind can easily disrupt it and damage young plantings.
4. Every year it is necessary to increase the cuts so that the bushes can freely increase the volume of the horns.
5. Material costs for the purchase of the shelter.
Preparation of beds and planting
Before boarding, we prepare a place in advance. We mark the rows with pegs. Distribute 3 strips over the entire width of the nonwoven fabric. We dig a trench to a depth of 20-25 cm. We introduce a mixture of rotted manure (three-year aging) with sand in a ratio of 3: 1. Add soil from the trench on top. Mix everything thoroughly.
Since humus from manure is predominantly nitrogen fertilizer, for balance we add 1 glass of ash and 1 tablespoon of phosphorus-potassium components to a bucket of compost. We fill the soil thoroughly. Bushes in one place will grow for 4-5 years.
Mark the beginning and end of the row with pegs. We spread the canvas to its full width (standard 3, 2 meters). We fix it with wire pins. Let the soil settle for 3-4 days.
Using a lath and chalk, draw rows on the fabric, focusing on the "beacons". We measure the distance between the bushes in a strip with a meter (optimal 50-60 cm for vigorous varieties). We put chalk marks. Use a sharp knife to cut the material crosswise.
We spill the landing site well. We plant the plants, pressing the roots tightly, without burying the growth point. In the beginning, the seedlings stick slightly in the sun. After 3-4 days, food is restored. The leaves return to their original form.
To keep the material on the tracks longer and for additional fasteners, old wooden boards are laid out. When walking, try not to step on the fabric.
Care for such a plantation requires regular watering. Top dressing once every 2 weeks (during regrowth, flowering, berry formation). In the spring, harvesting dry leaves, replacing dead plants with new ones.
Method correction
On the first bed, the non-woven material was laid out in a single sheet across the entire width. Practice has shown that this is not a very convenient option. It is better to cut it into strips for each row separately. Be sure to overlap each other in the area of paths. Press the joints with boards.
Advantages: if necessary, I fold the fabric from the side of the tracks, weeding perennial weeds, loosening the soil, destroying ants and other pests. Then I put the material back in place.
On the first bed, the planting pattern was slightly thickened, the row spacing was 70 cm in a row of 30-40 cm between the bushes. As you can see in the photo for 2 years, the rows closed completely. Collecting berries has become problematic. Next time I plan to increase the row spacing to 1 meter, plant it in a row 50-60 cm apart.
I really liked this method. I plan to use it in the future on other beds and crops.

You can increase the landing area of a small area with vertical beds. This allows you to plant 5 times more strawberries per square meter. Let's talk about creating a vertical structure of a berry from plastic / sewer pipes
Powdery Mildew Of Strawberries And Strawberries
Powdery mildew affects all aerial parts of strawberries and strawberries: berries, antennae and leaf petioles with leaf blades. This attack causes the greatest harm in greenhouses, and warm and humid air contributes to this. If the summer is humid, powdery mildew develops quite actively in the open field, depleting berry crops throughout the season. If powdery mildew attacked strawberries with strawberries at the stage of their development and ripening of berries, then you can lose not only the harvest
Gray Rot Of Strawberries And Strawberries
Gray rot especially affects berries located in close proximity to the soil. During the ripening period of juicy berries, its mass development takes place. Often, gray rot is rampant in storage facilities where the necessary disinfection has not been carried out. If the summer is cool and rainy, then it spreads at a truly incredible speed. On old berry bushes, the percentage of damage to such an unpleasant ailment is usually much higher than on young ones
