Susak is included in the number of plants of the family called pines, in Latin the name of this plant sounds like this: Butomus. As for the Latin name of the family itself, in Latin it will be like this: Butomceae. Susak is a perennial herb that is intended for cultivation both in water bodies and in coastal areas.

Description of the plant

Susak is characterized by wide distribution throughout Europe, as well as in Asia, the Far East and southern Siberia. In addition, the susak is now actively cultivated in Canada and the United States. Under natural conditions, this plant chooses for growth the banks of ponds and rivers, as well as meadow bogs.

The only representative of this family is called the Umbelliferae. The height of this plant can fluctuate between thirty and one hundred and fifty centimeters. This plant is endowed with a rather thick horizontal rhizome. Susak leaves are collected in a root rosette of about seven to twelve pieces. The shape of such leaves will be linear-xiphoid, in the lower part these leaves are triangular, the length of the leaves is about twenty centimeters, and their width reaches one centimeter. The stem of the plant is a bare peduncle, which is cylindrical in shape. In one season, about three peduncles can appear on the rhizome, each of which grows from a separate outlet at a distance of about four to seven centimeters. Susak flowers are collected in umbrella-shaped inflorescences: there are about twenty to thirty such flowers. Susak flowers are painted in pink tones. It should be noted that the flowering of the sage is not simultaneous, which significantly prolongs the period of special decorativeness of this plant. Susak fruit is a collection leaflet. The flowering of the plant occurs in the period from June to the end of August.

It should be noted that this plant is completely unpretentious to care for, and besides this, it also has a particularly increased degree of winter hardiness. Susak is a light-loving plant, and gley soils are required for its rooting. The plant grows along the banks of various reservoirs, as well as in shallow water. At the same time, clean, slow-flowing water will be required for the favorable development of the susak. It should be noted that the plant will perfectly tolerate even a temporary drought in the reservoir.

With the help of a sousak, you can create amazingly beautiful bodies of water and coastal areas. It is recommended to plant the plant in water bodies to a depth of about ten centimeters. It is noteworthy that the plant can also be planted in artificially created swamps. It is worth noting that the plant is also endowed with medicinal properties, which are widely used in folk medicine. As for the rhizomes of this plant, they are quite suitable for human consumption and are endowed with a large quantitative composition of starch. Susak is also a good honey plant.

It should be noted that literally no special care is required for the gopher. In order for the flowering of this plant to turn out to be more abundant, it will take every two to three years to divide the rhizome of the susak.

Breeding gopher

Reproduction of the plant can take place with the help of vegetative buds, which are located on the rhizomes. Such vegetative buds will be torn off by the flow of water. It is noteworthy that in addition to this, the plant is also able to reproduce by means of seeds, however, such reproduction most often occurs by self-sowing. In addition, reproduction is also available by dividing the rhizome, which should be performed in the spring. It is important to remember that this plant is not susceptible to diseases and is not damaged by various pests.
