Susak sitnikovy (lat. Butomus junceus) - a representative of the genus Susak of the family Susak. Typical habitats in nature are damp meadows, swamps, river banks, lakes, and reservoirs. It is found mainly in the southwest of the People's Republic of China, Mongolia and Siberia.

Characteristics of culture

Susak sitnikovy is represented by perennial herbaceous plants with thin cylindrical stems, reaching a height of 30-60 cm. The rhizome is small in size, endowed with filiform yellow roots. The foliage is narrow, linear, erect, gray-green, often keeled.

The flowers are small, up to 15 mm in diameter, collected in umbellate inflorescences of 5-15 pieces. Sepals are small, purple in color, petals are slightly larger in size, pale, pinkish, no more than 8 mm long. Blossoming of the sage-grass sage is observed in early to mid-summer, the fruits are formed by the end of July.

Growing features

Sitnikovy sushak is planted on well-lit areas near water bodies or in the water body itself. It is important that the water in the reservoir is clean, fresh or slightly brackish, otherwise the plant will not please with active growth. The soil, in turn, is desirable nutritious, silted, you can add river sand, clay, river silt to the soil. Planting of the sitnikovy sushnik is carried out in the spring. A piece of rhizome is placed in the water column to a depth of no more than 30 cm or in the ground near a reservoir to a depth of no more than 10 cm.

To prevent aggressive spread, you can plant the crop in a container without a bottom. The container itself is lowered to the bottom and added dropwise. In the future, the division of the bushes is carried out at least once every three years, the refusal to divide leads to a decrease in the quality of flowering and the plant loses its decorative appearance. The plant does not need special care, watering is required only if the plant is grown not in a reservoir, but in the coastal zone.

Application

Susak sitnikovy is most often used as an ornamental plant, it is used to ennoble areas with reservoirs and damp soils. Also, the plant is widely used in folk medicine. Infusions and decoctions from it are recommended to be used as an expectorant.

Previously, the sithnikus was used as a material for the manufacture of mats, mats, baskets and other wicker goods. The roots of the common bushew are used for food. They are dried, ground to a flour-like state, then allowed to cook bread products.

Collecting rhizomes for nutrition is carried out in the fall, it is at this moment that they are endowed with the lion's share of protein and starch. They are dug up or removed from the reservoir, cut up and down, dried and then placed in storage in a dry dark room. Store the roots or flour from them in a glass or wooden tightly closed container.
