Description
Sour cream is a fruit tree up to nine meters high. All young shoots are certainly pubescent, and smooth, shiny and surprisingly fragrant leaves are painted in light green underneath and dark green on top.
Single cone-shaped soursop flowers grow on short pedicels, which can be located not only on the branches, but also on the trunks.
The fruits of this plant are incredibly juicy multileafs with a rather strong turpentine aroma. These are the largest fruits among all the crops belonging to the Annonov family. The width of the fruit often reaches fifteen centimeters, and their length can vary from ten to thirty-five centimeters. As for their weight, it ranges from four and a half to seven kilograms.
For unripe fruits, a dark green skin is characteristic, however, as it ripens, the skin gradually begins to turn yellow and become covered with rather thick thorns. The dense pulp of sour cream apples is very reminiscent of cotton wool and boasts a pleasant creamy-whitish color. It is sweet and sour and smells strongly of strawberries. Also inside each fruit there are black poisonous seeds.
Where grows
Naturally, soursop is native to numerous islands in the Caribbean (including Bermuda and the Bahamas), as well as a number of South American and Central American countries (from Peru with Argentina to southern Mexico). In all these countries, this plant has been cultivated for a long time. And you can meet him at an altitude of 1150 meters above sea level.
Also, the soursop has been successfully introduced and has taken root in South China, Oceania, Australia and India, as well as in some countries of Southeast Asia.
Application
After peeling, these fruits can be eaten fresh. Ideally, it will not hurt to mix them with a small amount of sugar, since they still have a sour taste. And to get a delicious dessert, it is enough to season the pulp with cream or milk. The extract of these fruits also found its application - it turned into an excellent flavoring for tea. Also, the pulp of sour cream apples is an excellent addition to ice cream and is often used to make sherbets, cakes, jellies, jams and rich syrups.
In countries where sour cream grows, wonderful refreshing juices and drinks are made from its fruits (for this, freshly squeezed juice is combined with milk and sugar). In addition, the juice of these fruits is often fermented - this allows you to get a low-alcohol drink, similar to cider in both smell and color.
The systematic use of such fruits helps to maintain the intestinal microflora in an adequate condition and in every possible way contributes to the elimination of toxins from the body. With the help of these fruits, you can normalize the work of the gallbladder and liver, as well as cope with gout, rheumatism and arthritis. And for hypertensive patients, they will quickly help reduce blood pressure.
Not so long ago, Latin American scientists found that sour cream apples also contain substances that have a powerful anti-cancer effect.
