Scilla - a flowering winter-hardy perennial from the Hyacinth family. Other names are scilla or blue snowdrop.

Description

Proleska is a low bulbous plant, equipped with linear basal leaves. The diameter of the rounded bulbs of this plant usually ranges from one to three centimeters. And the leaves of the scrub, of which it almost always has from two to four, are basal, belt-like and linear.

The color of the star-shaped or bell-shaped flowers of the squid can be arbitrarily varied - purple, blue, a little less often - pink, white or even purple. All these flowers are collected in racemose apical inflorescences sitting on leafless peduncles. And you can admire the flowering of the woodland in spring or autumn.

There are about ninety species of the common woodland genus.

Where grows

Proleska is quite widespread in South Africa, the Mediterranean and Eurasia.

Usage

Proleska is an ideal plant for decorating a still empty spring garden. In order to create a particularly striking color effect, it is recommended to plant these amazing flowers often and in large enough quantities - this approach allows you to simulate their natural growth. If the plot is relatively small, then it is better to plant the woodlands in flower beds with perennials - quickly fading in the summer heat, they will carefully cover themselves with their wildly overgrown neighbors. In addition, the screech looks great in rockeries near stones and on alpine slides. As for the best partner plants, for the autumn-flowering forest trees, this will necessarily be the crocus, and for the spring-flowering specimens - daffodils, tulips, chionodoxa and goose onions.

Growing and caring

It will grow best on moist, loose garden soils with leafy humus. At the same time, it is important to take into account the fact that this plant does not tolerate swampy terrain at all. This beauty feels especially good in light partial shade under the crowns of trees that have not yet had time to be covered with foliage, but this does not mean at all that she cannot grow in the sun - how much she can!

It is recommended to irrigate the forest floor whenever possible with soil loosening, which is usually carried out to a depth of two to two and a half centimeters. Also, after that, it is quite permissible to mulch the soil with humus. And with the onset of spring, it makes sense to pamper this beauty with dressings - potash or nitrogen fertilizers are usually taken as these. The plant responds especially well to such feeding! If you want the scrub to bloom even better, it does not hurt to use nitrophoska, which is well known to all gardeners, as a top dressing. And the spade is also characterized by a very impressive frost resistance!

The screech reproduces very easily with the help of seeds - they are planted in open ground with the onset of autumn, but the seedlings in this case will bloom only in the second or even in the third year. It is also more than realistic to reproduce this plant with bulbs, that is, children. However, in the presence of suitable conditions, blueheads are quite capable of multiplying by self-seeding, moreover, they can grow well in the same place even for several decades!

It is recommended to dig out the onion bulbs only after all the leaves on the plant have died, and ideally it is recommended to immediately plant them in permanent places. If, for some reason, it is not possible to do this, then it is recommended to send them for storage until the end of August or even before the beginning of September, after placing them in peat and taking them to a cool room.
