The flowers of this plant will be quite small in size, they are painted in bright yellow tones and gather in a rather dense spreading panicle, endowed with a delicate honey aroma. The corolla of the present bedstraw is spine-petal and four-part; there are only four stamens, while the pistil is one.
The flowering of the present bedstraw falls on the period from the second half of July to September. It is noteworthy that this plant is also a very valuable honey plant. Under natural conditions, the plant is found in Western and Eastern Siberia, the European part of Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Far East, Belarus and Ukraine. For growth, the bedstraw prefers forest glades, steppes, dry meadows, the shores of lakes and rivers, lime deposits, forest edges, clearings and steppe slopes.
Description of the medicinal properties of the present bedstraw
The real bedstraw is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while it is recommended to use the roots, inflorescences and grass of this plant for medicinal purposes. Grass includes flowers, stems and leaves.
The presence of such valuable healing properties is recommended to be explained by the content of coumarins, tannins, essential oil, steroids, saponins, iridoids, coloring substances, as well as the following microelements in the composition of this plant: manganese, copper, zinc, iron, nickel, titanium, chromium and molybdenum … An enzyme is present in the flowers and leaves of this plant that will cause milk to curd. It is for this reason that such parts of the present bedstraw have found application in cheese making.
As for traditional medicine, here this plant is quite widespread. The preparations created on the basis of the present bedstraw are recommended for use as a hemostatic, choleretic, antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, sedative and wound-healing agent. The infusion, prepared on the basis of the grass and flowers of the present bedstraw, is recommended for diarrhea as a hemostatic and astringent agent, and is also used for hemorrhoids, gastritis, endometritis, nosebleeds and menstruation. Also, such a healing agent is used as a diuretic for edema, urolithiasis, as a pain reliever for headaches, colic and cramps in the intestines, as an anticonvulsant for epilepsy and childhood convulsions.
