The calyx of this plant is divided into five lobes, and its length is one to two centimeters. The corolla of the common primrose is colored in light yellow tones and is endowed with a pharynx painted in pink, lilac, orange or purple tones. Such a corolla of this plant is endowed with a rather wide diameter, the length of which is about two to four centimeters. The fruit of the common primrose is somewhat shorter than the cups and is an ovoid capsule.
This plant blooms in early spring. Under natural conditions, common primrose is found on the territory of Western Transcaucasia, Crimea, Dnieper region and the Carpathians in Ukraine. For growth, this plant prefers alpine lawns near melting snow and deciduous forests.
Description of the medicinal properties of common primrose
Common primrose is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the roots, leaves and grass of this plant. Grass includes the leaves, flowers and stems of this plant.
The presence of such valuable medicinal properties should be explained by the content in the roots of this plant of carbohydrates, aromatic compounds, galactose, uronic acid, triterpenoids, glucose, primulagenin A and 28-dehydroprimulagin A. In turn, the leaves of this plant contain quercetin, cyanidin, delphinidin, kaempferol and triterpenoid glycoside, and flavonoids and essential oil will be present in the flowers.
Water and alcohol extracts based on this plant are protistocidal agents. Water extracts from the leaves of common primroses will promote faster wound healing: this property has been confirmed experimentally. A decoction prepared on the basis of the roots of common primrose is recommended for use in bronchopneumonia, bronchitis and catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. An infusion based on leaves can be used as an antiscorbutic agent in case of a lack of vitamin C.
The leaf powder of this plant is used to cover wounds. As for traditional medicine, here the common primrose has become quite widespread. An infusion based on the leaves and flowers of this plant is indicated for use in chronic constipation, inflammation of the bladder, migraines and various colds. The infusion, prepared on the basis of the flowers of the common primrose, is recommended for insomnia, neurasthenia and headache. It should be noted that such remedies are very effective.
