Noni (Latin Morinda citrifolia) - a small fruit tree belonging to the Madder family. In science, this culture is also called citrus-leaved morind.

Description

Noni is a small tree, the height of which usually does not exceed seven meters, and the depth of its roots can reach twenty-one meters. The shiny dark green leaves of this plant are deeply streaked with miniature veins. The small tubular noni flowers, abundantly filled with nectar, are colored white, and the oval, potato-like fruits contain a huge number of tiny seeds and reach a length of four to seven centimeters. Unripe fruits are usually greenish, but as they ripen, they turn light yellow or white, and their skin becomes almost transparent.

Edible noni fruits have a rather pungent smell (similar to the smell of moldy spoiled cheese) and have a bitter and very unpleasant aftertaste. With all this, on a number of Pacific islands (Rarotonga, Samoa, Fiji), they are the main food product.

Morinda citrus-leaved is good because it blooms and bears fruit throughout the year. And the fruits of this plant are harvested monthly! In general, noni fruit takes about ninety days to ripen. At the same time, fruits of unequal maturity can easily coexist on the same branch.

Where grows

The homeland of the funny noni is Malaysia, but now this crop is successfully grown along the entire tropical belt of the earth. Moreover, in each country noni has its own name, as a result of which there are now about seventy of its names.

Application

Noni juice, popular all over the world, contains over one hundred and fifty different biologically active substances. Moreover, it is considered a complete drug. And to enhance the effect, concentrates of grape and blueberry juice are added to the delicate pulp puree. By the way, the ancient recipes of the natives of Polynesia were taken as the basis for the formula of noni juice. This unique juice has not only anti-edema, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, but also a pronounced anti-cancer effect. And if you drink noni juice before meals, it significantly improves digestion.

Some people willingly eat unripe noni fruits - they perfectly tone up. The famous curry is also made from green fruits, and Thai chefs wrap meat or fish in noni leaves.

Also, on the basis of noni and its miraculous juice, various medicines and excellent cosmetics are made (the cosmetics of the “Noni Care” company are especially popular). For several hundred years, noni fruits have been an excellent cure for hypertension, asthma, diabetes, cancer and a great variety of other ailments. Moreover, these fruits can even help to quit smoking.

Thai doctors successfully use noni pulp to treat all kinds of allergic reactions: sneezing, runny nose, rash and itching. In addition, noni extracts are prescribed for HIV patients and in the treatment of a number of oncological ailments. And the proxeronin contained in these fruits perfectly helps to reduce the harmful effects of chemotherapy.

Noni seeds are rich in phospholipids, which have a beneficial effect on the sense of smell, and the linoleic acid they contain helps to keep the skin healthy.

Noni leaves are brewed as tea - this tea is an excellent sedative.
