Liriope sometimes also known as mouse hyacinth. Liriope is a perennial plant, there are eight different species in this genus. As for the name of the mouse hyacinth, the actual appearance of this name should be associated with the fact that outwardly this flower looks like a hyacinth. The height of the lyriope can fluctuate between twenty and sixty centimeters. By color, the flowers of this plant can be white, blue, purple, lilac and blue. Liriope blooms at the very end of the summer season. The flowers of the plant are collected in rather long racemose inflorescences.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of Liriope

As for the light regime, it is recommended to plant this plant in sunny areas or in slightly shaded areas. The soil must be fertile and well-drained. It is important to note that this plant is particularly drought tolerant, for this reason frequent watering of the lyriope is not required. However, it is important to remember that excess moisture can have an extremely negative effect on the entire development of this plant.

With regard to feeding, such measures should be taken from June to September, with a frequency of once a month. To carry out such dressings, complex mineral fertilizers will be required. In addition, when planting, it is recommended to add humus to the soil.

It should be noted that this plant is not particularly resistant to possible cold snaps. For this reason, in those regions where the climate is especially cold, it is necessary to cover plantings for the winter period of time with spruce branches or dry foliage. It is important to remember that lyriope has the ability to grow rather quickly, and besides this, the plant also quickly loses all its decorative effect. For this reason, it is recommended to renew the plantings of Liriope about once every two to three years.

In the case when the plant is grown in indoor conditions, it will be necessary to select the following composition of the soil soil: peat, sand, leafy soil, humus and sod land. As for the pot itself, a small pot is needed, in which there will be drainage holes, which is due to the fact that drainage is required to be laid at the very bottom of the pot.

The plant should always be in a sufficiently illuminated place, but this place must be reliably protected from direct sunlight. As for the temperature regime, the lyriopa will need a temperature of sixteen to twenty degrees. Many gardeners prefer growing a plant on the balcony, but it is important to avoid any drafts.

Throughout the entire period of active growth and flowering, it will take about one or two times a month to apply complex mineral fertilizers. After the end of the flowering period occurs, such fertilizing must be completely stopped. Watering the lyriopa should be sparingly, while it is important not to allow the slightest stagnation of moisture.

It is important to remember that the plant is most often grown on the balcony, which is explained by the fact that Liriope retains its decorative effect only in the summer. In winter, it is important to keep the pot in a cool place, where the temperature regime will fluctuate between five and ten degrees of heat. In winter, watering should be rare, but no drying out of the earthen coma should be allowed. However, even in winter, the lyriopa needs to be kept in a bright place. The plant should be transplanted every year: it is recommended to do this in the spring. When replanting, it is necessary to completely replace the soil.
