Mombin yellow (Latin Spondias mombin) - a fruit tree representing the Sumach family. This plant is often called the Jamaican plum.

Description

The yellow mombin is a deciduous fruit tree with a luxurious spreading crown. And its height is within forty - forty-five meters. The length of the odd-pinnate and compound leaves reaches half a meter, with each leaf consisting of an odd number (usually from five to nineteen) of smaller leaves, which are ovoid-lanceolate and grow from five to fifteen centimeters in length.

Miniature little white flowers of a yellow mombin fold into graceful panicles, the length of which can reach forty centimeters.

The fruits of this plant are ovoid or slightly oval drupes, reaching up to two and a half centimeters in width and up to four centimeters in length. Ripe fruits are covered with a rather tough, but at the same time very thin skin, painted in golden yellow tones pleasing to the eye.

The flesh of the fruit is slightly musky, surprisingly juicy and rather sour with a slight turpentine flavor. Inside the fruit, bones are hidden, the length of which sometimes reaches two centimeters, and such bones are painted in pleasant cream tones. In addition, they are equipped with many longitudinal wrinkles.

After the trees have bloomed, the fruits form on them quickly enough, but they only ripen for a long time. And as soon as they fall to the ground, they begin to germinate quickly, with new plants starting to harvest eight months later!
