In order for the mulberry tree to please you with its annual harvest for many years, it is necessary to properly plant an orchard, master the technology of caring for adult plants
Advantages
Growing mulberry trees is beneficial in all respects.
He has the following qualities:
• easy to trim;
• an excellent hedge will decorate any site;
• used in garden sculpture;
• frost resistance up to 30 degrees;
• undemanding to soil fertility;
• drought-resistant;
• delicious delicacy;
• medicinal properties;
• easy reproduction.
Let's go through all the points in more detail.
Living conditions
The taproot goes to a great depth, extracting moisture from the underlying horizons for the plant. That is why mulberry is not afraid of drought, does not require frequent watering.
Any soil is suitable for it: loamy, sandy, clayey, salt marshes. On the sands of the trees, additional root shoots appear, with which the plant strives to hold onto the loose soil more firmly.
Strong gas pollution in large cities does not reduce the yield of trees. They perfectly adapt to any conditions of detention. They are not afraid of strong winds, low temperatures in winter, long dry periods.
Poorly tolerates the close occurrence of groundwater, spring flooding, wetlands. It is better to choose a dry, high, sunny location, protected from the northerly winds.
Garden laying
A mulberry tree is planted in the garden in early spring before the active opening of the buds or at the end of summer 1, 5 months before the onset of cold weather. The first way is safer. Over the summer, the plant will get stronger, give a new growth.
Autumn plantings are risky. A snowless period at the beginning of winter with severe frosts can destroy seedlings that have not completely taken root. Therefore, try to plant all your perennial plants mainly in the spring.
We dig a hole 3 times larger than the earthen lump on the plant. Add humus, peat, a little sand, 3 tablespoons of nitroammophoska to it. Mix thoroughly.
Gently straighten the roots, set the seedling vertically. Next we stick a high, reliable peg. It is advisable to carry out this procedure together. One person supports the tree, the other throws the ground.
We compact the earth around the trunk, pour it abundantly with water. We mulch with peat, sawdust, or compost. The first time we keep the soil moist. Then we gradually reduce watering to 1 time per week.
We feed 2 times a month with the complex fertilizer "Zdraven" 1 tablespoon per bucket of water. Weed the weeds, gently loosen the trunks.
Winter protection
The first years in winter, they put a frame of wooden slats over the plant, stretch non-woven material. It will protect young seedlings from damage. Spruce branches are laid around the trunk to protect the young from rodents. If possible, the structures are buried with snow. Shelters are removed in early spring.
Trees older than 3 years do not need frames. In winter, snow is trampled around the trunk to protect it from mice. Then buried to the maximum with snow.
Care
Caring for an adult tree consists of the obligatory annual crown formation. This technique will help:
• adjust the height of the plant at a comfortable level;
• will give a beautiful appearance and shape;
• rejuvenate the tree;
• remove frozen, dried-up branches.
In early spring, we bring in half a glass of nitroammophoska, evenly distribute it over the surface. Loosen the trunk circles, add a mulch layer.
An adult tree practically does not need watering. Exceptions are long dry periods of more than 1 month with high air temperatures.
Yield
The mulberry tree bears fruit annually, in contrast to the apple tree. Every season the tree is strewn with juicy, tender berries, regardless of climatic conditions.
The first fruiting in seed specimens occurs at the 5th year of life, in grafted seedlings this period is reduced to 3 years. The tree reaches the level of maximum yield in the tenth year and continues to bear fruit without a decrease in quality for up to 200 years.
When buying seedlings, check with the seller about the pollination of this variety. Modern hybrids are of two types: dioecious and monoecious. If there are female and male inflorescences on the tree at the same time, then you can limit yourself to one seedling. Its harvest is enough for one family to enjoy delicious fruits all summer long.
