Nature has done a good job creating many plants on the planet that provide healthy and high-quality food to animals and humans. However, there are times when a living organism for various reasons becomes weakened and lethargic, and then the plants offer their services to maintain and restore lost vitality or to heal ailments. Such plants do not need to sail overseas. They grow next to us. You just need to look closely at them
Frost-resistant Siberian
The plant named "Maral Root" chose cold Siberian expanses for its place of residence. Its erect, ribbed stems with a pubescent surface, decorated with spectacular green leaves, the leaf plate of which is pinnate, and each lobe is edged with sharp-nosed denticles, can be found in the mountains of Western and Eastern Siberia, in particular, in Altai.
The plant is perennial. The guarantor of its longevity is an underground brown rhizome, from which roots spread in all directions, and stems from half a meter rise to the surface of the earth, capable of growing up to two meters in favorable conditions. The stem is crowned with a large inflorescence of purple tubular flowers, in the shape of a basket, the traditional form of plants of the Astrovye family. The delicate purple basket is protected by numerous dense sepals with sharp tips, superimposed on each other so skillfully that together they form a bowl, reminiscent of the overturned tiled roof of a cozy country house.
A name framed by legends
The plant got its name "Maral root" from observant people who noticed that in the spring, when Siberian deer weakened during the winter, with big beautiful horns on their heads, dig the earth with these horns to extract nutritious plant roots from the soil.
Just as jewelers frame precious stones in gold or silver, people “frame” plants that surprised them with legends. The healing plant, Maralia root, has not spared the legends. The common thread of these legends is the ability of the roots to restore the vitality of marals after winter, or after a fight with enemies.
Official botanical name and synonymous names
The plant is called "maral root" among the people, and among botanists it is listed under a difficult to pronounce Latin name - "Rhaponticum carthamoides", which in Russian sounds as follows - "Raponticum safflower".
In addition, there are many other names that refer to the same plant. For example, "Big-headed safflower", "Leuzea safflower", "Maralova grass", "Stemakantha safflower" … Therefore, do not rush to engage in battle with those who suddenly named any plant with a name that does not correspond to the name you know. After all, a similar picture is characteristic of many representatives of the plant world.
Healing abilities
What made the Siberian unpretentious plant so different that even the official Russian pharmacology recognizes its healing abilities?
Since ancient times, people have noticed the miraculous ability of plant roots to support the strength of not only wild marals, but also the human body. Traditional healers treated bodily wounds with tinctures and decoctions from the roots of the plant, and also helped the internal organs to overcome fatigue from overstrain of physical and mental forces.
Modern medicines from the plant "Maral Root" are prescribed by doctors to patients who are recovering from a debilitating illness; with nervous breakdowns and depression; overwork and hypotension; when you need to lower your blood sugar and for many other health problems.
Cultivation in culture
Since the predatory attitude towards the medicinal plant has greatly undermined its natural presence in traditional growing areas, "Maral root" is actively grown in man-made plantings.
For favorable growth, the plant requires a sunny place, fertile soil, good soil drainage.
