Strawberries compare favorably with other crops in that they begin to bear fruit earlier than others. And already next year, after planting, with good care, it gives an excellent harvest. And you can enjoy the first fruits at the beginning of summer, when the garden is not yet rich in other ripe fruits and berries. At the same time, strawberries draw out a large amount of nutrients from the ground. Therefore, you need to know what elements, and in what quantity, this culture requires

Features of the growth of strawberries

Based on the fact that strawberries, despite their miniature size, form a strong rosette with a large number of leaves, whiskers, peduncles, it is extremely demanding on the nutritional value of the soil. In addition to what we see on the surface of the soil, what is hidden from the eyes of the gardener is what is behind the ground. And here an extremely ramified root system develops.

Most of the roots are located in the surface layer, but some roots go deeper down to 50 cm. Moreover, root growth continues throughout the growing season. However, the highest activity is observed in spring, from the end of April, then this cycle repeats after the end of fruiting. And since the bulk of the roots is superficial, it is important to saturate this layer of soil with a sufficient amount of nutrients.

Fertilizers for strawberries

To meet the nutritional needs of strawberries, fertilizers must be applied to the plantation area, even at the stage of preparation for planting seedlings. The perennial is very responsive to the use of organics. The plant will thank you with a high yield if you use organic matter such as horse or cow dung for fertilization. Only it is not used fresh. It must overheat or turn into humus. Peat compost will also be an excellent fertilizer for planting.

With a lack of organic matter, mineral fertilizers will help out:

• nitrogen - urea, ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate;

• potassium - chloride or sulphate potassium, potassium salt;

• phosphoric - superphosphate, phosphate rock.

Fertilizers are applied to the plantation during the autumn digging during planting in the spring or summer shortly before the autumn work with seedlings. To do this, 1 sq. M. you will need:

• manure - 5-6 kg;

• superphosphate - 30 g;

• potassium chloride - 15 g.

If it was not possible to get organic matter, it is recommended to increase the dose of mineral fertilizers. How much depends on the type of soil. If your site has light soil, the dose is increased by 50%, when it is heavy soil - then about 2 times.

With this approach, in the first year after planting, additional fertilizing in the beds is not done. From the first year of fruiting, ammonium nitrate should already be applied - up to 10 g per 1 square meter. From the second year, the situation is more serious. This time, you will have to take care of double feeding - in early spring, before active root growth and after harvesting, respectively. During this period, new horns are formed from the axillary buds.

To do this, you need the following set of fertilizers:

• nitrogen - 20 g of urea or ammonium nitrate, 30 g of ammonium sulfate is also suitable;

• potassium - 18 g of chloride or potassium sulfate, you can use 20 g of potassium salt;

• phosphoric - 30 g of superphosphate.

This dose is divided by two and carried to the beds in two terms.

Liquid fertilizing with an aqueous solution of slurry has a positive effect. They are used before the beginning of the flowering period and after the end of fruiting. To do this, it is recommended to arrange grooves in the row spacing of plantings. They are first watered well, and then fertilizer is used with further soil embedding. Ash can also be used.

It is not out of place to process the plantation during the flowering of strawberries. Here solutions of potassium molybdenum acid, zinc sulfate, boric acid will be very useful.
