Royal geranium

Among other species of this flower, royal geranium is distinguished by its attractive appearance and large size. Its flowers are very bright and graceful

Despite the fact that geranium is quite capricious and demanding to care for, flower growers are very often interested in growing this plant. Every year more and more gardeners add a beautiful plant in the form of a royal geranium to their collection.

Features of the royal geranium and difficulties during care

"Royal Geranium" is exactly the name that fully reflects both the character and appearance of this magnificent flower. Indeed, the royal flower does not at all look like those modest inhabitants of the windowsill in the apartment that we are used to seeing. In addition, royal geranium has a lot of varieties, which attracts flower growers even more. However, any person who decides to grow a royal geranium should understand that the slightest mistakes in caring for a plant can lead to a variety of unpleasant circumstances. For example, geranium may simply not bloom or very quickly the flowers of the plant will dry out and fall off.

But these are not all factors that can spoil the experience of growing royal geraniums at home. In fact, the royal geranium blooms for a very short period of time, and the grower must be ready for this. Other varieties of geraniums are more responsive to the care and concern of flower growers. If you take the royal geranium to the veranda or street in the summer, it will not help in any way, and there will be no benefit from it. On the contrary, the plant will be more difficult to withstand climate change.

Geranium can be propagated in two ways: sowing seeds or cuttings. Both of them require effort and attention. However, if such a wayward character of a beautiful royal geranium does not scare the grower, then the plant will reward it with large and velvety flowers that can have different shades - as a rule, white and burgundy colors are most often found. Also, the corolla petals here have a wavy structure, and their edges can be either even or somewhat serrated. On them, spots or stripes are often placed, serving as a charming pattern, giving the flowers a beautiful and luxurious look. Very often, in the upper petals, the color and color saturation are much brighter and richer, and in the lower part of the plant there are more delicate and pastel shades. Corollas in such a situation are in the form of tiny inflorescences in the form of umbrellas.

The leaves of this plant always have a green color, although geranium varieties with variegated foliage are also found. Typically, the flowering period of royal geraniums is four months, and sometimes three. True, for this you will need to follow many rules of care as timely watering, regular feeding, pruning and ensuring an ideal indoor microclimate for flower development.

In what conditions are royal geraniums grown?

In general, there is an opinion among gardeners that both garden and indoor geraniums are the most unpretentious flowers. But this is not entirely true, since their royal cousins are very capricious and demanding, they love it when the owner looks after them and takes care of them. The lack of flowering of royal geranium can occur for only one reason - the wine of the grower. In such a situation, the plant does not suit something. Namely, this may refer to lighting, improper watering sequence, too high or low temperature, the presence of drafts, lack of pruning, improperly selected planting container or soil.

As a care for royal geraniums, special attention should be paid to creating conditions that are comfortable for the plant. An earthen ball in a pot or container should never be completely dry. At the same time, over-watering also harms this plant. With a lack of lighting, the flower will rapidly stretch out and lose its aesthetic appeal. Although there is a nuance here - the plant does not like hot scorching sun rays. If the flower grows on the southern windowsill, then it needs to create at least a small shadow, otherwise the leaves and flowers of the geranium will soon fade as a result of the burns received. It is best to place the king geranium container on the west or east side. But in such a situation, in cold winters, you need to apply additional lighting using phytolamps. Thus, without pruning, the plant will retain the neat and strict shape of the bush.
