Royal Delonix (Latin Delonix regia) - a tree from the legume family, born in Madagascar. For a magnificent bright flowering, it quickly spread throughout the planet, where it is warm, sunny, and the soil does not suffer from salinity. Loves loose, sandy, dry soils without excessive salt content. It tolerates prolonged drought, but blooms more abundantly when there is access to moisture.

Multiple names

Traveling around the globe, the tree acquires new names, as each nation tries to give Delonix its own name. For its violent scarlet flowering in many countries it is called the "Fire Tree" or "Fire Tree". But there are many other names, for example, "Phoenix Tail", "Calvary Flower".

Christians from India called the tree “the flower of Golgotha”, believing that the scarlet flowers are drops of the blood of Jesus Christ that rolled onto Delonix, who happened to be near the place of execution, from the ill-fated cross. Since those legendary times, flowers have been blazing under the hot rays of the sun, reminding people of the human god who gave his life to save people.

Description

Royal Delonix is an evergreen tree, which, in the absence of fertile moisture for a long time, can turn into deciduous. The leaves of the tree are a natural work of art with a double-feathery structure. The first row of leaves is arranged in pairs perpendicular to the stem, having, in turn, pairs of small oval leaves located along the petiole. The latter are attracted to each other (add up) at dusk. Large and wide leaves form a beautiful crown, sifting through the burning rays of the sun, incinerating all life on Earth, pacifying their hot ardor. It's nice to relax in the shade of a tree when the heat rolls over to the outdoor thermometer.

Scarlet inflorescences, consisting of large 5-petal flowers - the main advantage of the tree. Flowering in different parts of the planet has its own timing, the result of which is the year-round decoration of the planet with Royal Delonix, if you look at it from space. In the tropics, the flowering is so abundant that the leaves modestly give way to scarlet inflorescences, which turn the tree into a flaming torch. One petal of the flower is in the lead over the rest, rising vertically from the flower cup and differing from the monochromatic white-yellow spots on the surface.

The fruit of Delonix royal is a long bean pod, each seed in which has its own space. Green pods hang from the tree in bunches, gradually acquiring black color and rusticity. People living in Hawaii use lignified pods as firewood for cooking.

Reproduction and care

Delonix royal is propagated by sowing seeds or cuttings. In favorable conditions, young seedlings quickly gain height and become overgrown with openwork leaves, forming a spreading crown.

The tree does not need special care. To maintain the evergreen state of the leaves during prolonged drought, artificial watering is required.

Usage

Royal Delonix is widely used in landscaping resort towns in the warmest countries of our planet. Its lush crown, the diameter of which often exceeds the height of the tree (from 5 to 15 meters), gives the earth and people a blessed shade on hot days.
