The breeders presented more than 20 thousand varieties to lovers of the wonderful fuchsia flower. It is better to start assembling a collection with old, time-tested options. Expensive new items require more attention. How to make friends with beautiful plants?

Culture requirements

Brush-shaped varieties with red-orange inflorescences and burgundy foliage are suitable for bright sun. The rest of the beautiful genus prefer diffused light, openwork penumbra. In a dark place, fuchsias feel oppressed.

They respond positively to abundant watering, spraying the vegetative mass with boiled water at room temperature. Cold liquid causes stress in heat-loving plants.

The fresh air of the balcony or garden during the summer has a beneficial effect on abundant flowering. In the wild, domestic specimens are transformed: the crown becomes lush, the color of the foliage is saturated.

Winter is an ordeal for fuchsias. It is difficult to maintain the optimal temperature of 5-8 degrees in urban apartments, which is typical for the dormant period. At this time, watering is significantly reduced.

With insufficient nutrition, dry indoor air, the leaves fall off, the trunks become bare. Even with proper care, the lower part of the plants sheds foliage, which is not always associated with disease-causing factors.

With the onset of spring, the phase of active growth, the picture changes dramatically. There is an intensive build-up of the vegetative mass, the laying of many buds. To stimulate branching, formative pruning is carried out. Shoots are used for rooting.

Reproduction methods

They increase the amount of planting material in two vegetative ways:

• cuttings;

• leaves.

Let's consider both methods in more detail.

Cuttings

Spring shoots take root better than autumn ones, they grow roots and vegetative mass faster. Rain or snow water will speed up the process.

Freshly cut cuttings are kept in a container with thawed liquid until good roots are formed. The package is not covered. Under favorable conditions, it takes 10-20 days. Place the cups under fluorescent lamps.

Then they are transplanted carefully into a pot with a substrate. Watered with settled water. At first, they shade from direct sunlight. Cuttings rooted in March at the end of July delight with the first buds.

"Babushkin" method

Older fuchsia varieties are easily propagated using the leaf. With a sharp movement, healthy plates with a heel (a piece of "bark" from the main trunk) are cut off. Planted in moderately moist green sphagnum moss. A bud at the base of the leaf gives life to a new shoot. Film cover is excluded.

Young stock transplant

From the glasses, the plants are transplanted into pots with a diameter of 2-3 cm larger than the previous one, gradually increasing the volume of the earthen coma. Pine bark is poured at the bottom, which is both a nutrient and drainage.

A month later, the first feeding is carried out with the complex fertilizer "Kemira Lux". In the future, they look after, observing the preferences of the culture.

Place in the garden

Fuchsias are placed in flowerpots under the crown of tall trees and shrubs, providing an openwork penumbra for delicate plants. In flower beds, adult specimens are the center of the composition. For convenience, the "beauty" is buried together with the pot in the ground, so that during the transfer home in the fall, not to injure the roots.

In summer, fuchsias are displayed on open verandas, at the entrance to the house, near the gazebo. Ampel options are placed in hanging pots.

Fuchsia presents the caring hostess with beautiful flowers-bells on long "legs", with multi-colored skirts. The number of buds on adult specimens reaches several dozen. Delicate, bright inflorescences cheer up, please the eye, being a worthy decoration of a summer garden.
