Small wintergreen is one of the plants of the family called wintergreen, in Latin the name of this plant will sound like this: Pyrola minor L. As for the name of the family of the wintergreen itself, in Latin it will be like this: Pyrolacea Dumort.

Description of small wintergreen

The little grushanka is also known under the following popular names: borovaya armor, white birch, kotoptsi, stavik, wild pepper and meadow lily of the valley. Lesser Grushanka is a perennial plant, the height of which will fluctuate between seven and thirty centimeters. The stem of this plant is leafless, or it can be endowed with one or two scaly leaves. In this case, the basal leaves will be either obverse oval or rounded. Such leaves are blunt-rounded and barely noticeably obtuse-serrate. The flowers of the small wintergreen can be painted in slightly pinkish, greenish, white or cream tones. The calyx of this plant will be five-part, its lobes are triangular-ovate, and the corolla will be five-petaled, there are only ten stamens. The anthers of this plant open at the top with holes, the upper ovary is endowed with a straight column that will not protrude from the corolla, and the corolla itself expands into a five-lobed stigma. The fruit of this plant is a capsule. Blossoming of the small wintergreen falls on the summer period.

Under natural conditions, this plant can be found on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, the European Arctic, the European part of Russia, as well as in the Caucasus, Central Asia, Eastern and Western Siberia. For growth, this plant prefers mainly coniferous forests, as well as deciduous beech and hornbeam. In the north, this plant can be found in the grassy tundra and in mountain forests up to a height of one thousand two hundred meters above sea level. It is noteworthy that the small wintergreen is an ornamental plant.

Description of the medicinal properties of the small wintergreen

Small wintergreen is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the juice of the herb, leaves and grass of this plant. The presence of such valuable healing properties is explained by the content of arbutin, tannins, phenolcarboxylic gentisic acid and phenols in the plant.

The infusion and decoction, prepared on the basis of the herb of this plant, is recommended for use in gastalgia, constipation and pulmonary tuberculosis, as well as as an emetic and anthelmintic agent. In addition, such a plant is also used in the form of compresses for bruises. As for the juice of the herb of this plant, it can be used as an antidote for fish poisoning. Also, a decoction and infusion of wintergreen leaves is used as a wound healing and fixing agent, and externally such agents are used to treat purulent wounds. As a hemostatic agent, it is useful to drink a decoction of the leaves of this plant for all types of bleeding. It is worth noting that the flower tincture is used in the same way as the leaves themselves.

The juice of the herb of this plant is recommended to be taken in one or two teaspoons, washed down with water, as an antidote for fish poisoning.

As a fixing agent, as well as in the form of compresses intended for the treatment of purulent wounds, it is recommended to use the following remedy based on this plant: for its preparation, take three tablespoons of the leaves of this plant in two cups of boiling water. It is recommended to infuse the resulting mixture for two hours, and then filter thoroughly. This remedy is taken two tablespoons three times a day before the start of a meal.
